THE CURE - RM votes for Plainsong!

I have very little idea what I'm doing, some patience may be required at times.

Because of how many songs this will involve, I'm proposing a "super bracket" (? I have no idea) for the first few rounds where four songs compete with only one song progressing further - let me know if you think that's a terrible idea.

The scope of the tournament is the Cure's core single and album output from 1978 through 1997 (b-sides excluded for the sake of keeping this manageable):

This is going to be interesting. I couldn’t tell you if I’ve EVER heard one of these songs. This’ll be as objective as it gets.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

Just highlighting this for people's thoughts:

Open to any other suggestions, ideas, etc. too.

I think you should do whatever makes it easiest on you as the event organizer. I'm down with a long, head-to-head tournament. But I know that's daunting for you and for the general attention span of RM. So, I think you're "super bracket" idea makes a lot of sense.

You should reach out to Stip and see if he has any suggestions since he's run so many of these.

Yeah, my main concern is trying to keep things moving at a reasonable pace lest it become a boring slog for everyone who isn't a Cure superfan.

Totally legit concern.

I think your super bracket is a good call, then.

I support the super-bracket idea.

I'll try to make my way through most of these albums quickly. I've always really digged these guys but I'm actually unfamiliar with most of their catalog

I literally know 2 Cure songs off the top of my head. This tournament is gonna be fun for me because I really want an excuse to get to know their work and to hear how others experience the band.

Oh no! That's an oversight, it should be in the non-album singles list. This may require some adjustment.

Wow. I haven't been able to escape it, probably heard it hundreds of times, without putting it on myself. Good song though.

"In Between Days" is a solid but mid-tier Cure song
