This was interesting. I feel like partly we approach the movie from different views, certainly like different parts, and yet we have some conclusions that are similar:

thats certainly a legit critique. I dont know that star wars works if it goes too dark (part of the appeal is the way it can and does appeal to all ages simultaneously- Empire shies away from long term consequences as well) but as a film (rather than a star wars film) leaning in more to those themes would have made it even more impactful

TBH the rm reaction is Kinda surprising. Nothing like as varied and often heated as the TFA debate was upon its release.

Honestly don’t know. Probably cos more of our regular posters are on the same page about it and enjoyed it? It doesn’t leave endless questions and fertile bed for theories like TFA did.
But mainly? It’s cos
JJ didn’t direct this one so LV Isn’t here antagonising and rabble rousing.

Just found this on a forum I’m on. From 16 years ago

Guffaw!!

‘George Lucas has finally ruled out a seventh Star Wars movie, because he doesn't want to spend his final years on earth working on a pensioners-in-space project.

The movie mogul had been considering one final Star Wars project with his original cast, which he would have started after wrapping up the current trilogy of prequels.

He says, "I thought it might be fun to bring CARRIE (FISHER) and MARK (HAMMILL) and HARRISON (FORD) back when they're 65 and make another movie with them.

"But I'm going to be over 60 when I finish this and it takes 10 years to do a trilogy. I'm not going to spend my last 10 years doing Star Wars." "
