Nope. You don't get to this on this one, buddy.
Huh?
Just that this argument doesn't fly with someone as renounced and adored as Spielberg, that's all.
That doesn’t mean his work is widely understood.

Sure, that's fair. But do you really think that he's widely misunderstood? If that's your argument, then just ignore what I said above.

I do, yes. He’s considered mawkish and lacking in subtlety, which I don’t agree with at all.

Fair enough. I retract my earlier comment then.

This is tough, since I would say like 75% of his filmography is among my favorite movies. But:

1. Close Encounters of the Third Kind
2. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
3. Jaws
4. Jurassic Park
5. War of the Worlds

I can't speak for everyone but I don't hate Temple of Doom. I think it's the worst of the Indy films by a fair margin but I still love the shit out of it.

Also, guys, I tried... but I really don't like Temple of Doom. I'm doing this whole positivity thing right now but even I can't defend it. It's totally fine. But it's not a very good movie. Though it is fun to watch from time to time, I guess. If I never saw it again, I'd be okay.

It was the first movie my parents took me to see in the theater. So, it has a special place in my heart. It may not be as good as Jaws but it was my introduction to Spielberg and will always be something I hold close.

Except that remastered re-release where they edited out the guns. That was some fucking BULLSHIT.
