Love finding new routes. It's pretty much city streets and bike lanes here, which really sucks for the nation's friendliest bike city. Or whatever they call themselves.

We have something like 5 or 6 different bayous that all meander towards downtown and the ship channel. These trails aren’t good for commuting unless you live and work along one of the bayous, but the network is starting to really connect. Recreational riding is full of possible routes now. I want to explore them all.

That’s not even counting the increasing number of rails-to-trails bike lanes between bayous and through neighborhoods.

Lovely day today so I went out for a ride. On my way out to the river the wind was blowing against me and I was pushing about 12-13 mph. Turned around and was doing 22 easy. Sheesh.

I bought the Peloton

Got a Brooks saddle for my birthday so I put it on my bike and went for a quick 30-mile ride Saturday. Holy hell does that thing hurt. I hope it gets better, honestly.

Side note: pissed about the lack of maintenance information. Or rather the conflicting information. The booklet it comes with says to only use the softener/wax on the bottom but the video on their website has a dude rubbing it into the whole seat. The seat I got has a lace for the bottom and there's no information about how to lace it, where to lace it, or why you have four colors if the laces only fit four of the 12 or so holes.

And their video is just the worst.

Biked to work today. Felt very weird showering and then putting bike clothes on but since it's only 3 miles and a 20 min ride tops I couldn't see the point in wasting time at work. That said I need to build in a longer cool-down time because your body (surprise surprise!) keeps sweating after you stop exercising.

I also need to figure out a cardio schedule because even though I'm eating less (hospital food will do that to you) I'm not exercising any more than walking up and down four flights of stairs a couple times a day.

Not sure if you can do this or even want to, but I always bike to the nearest transit on my way to work and then use the commute home for my ride.

Specifally for sweaty clothes reasons.

So far, I've only had a chance to take a few rides this year and had to stick to the roads. I should be able to get back in the woods soon, so it's probably time to tune up this weekend. Looking forward to it, you guys.

Given how close to home I am, I'm pretty sure it would take longer to get on the bus. It's almost a straight line from home to here and mostly downhill.

Besides, that's why I have bike clothes.

I found what I consider a gem at a junk shop yesterday. I haggled with the owner and ended up walking away with what later research told me is a ‘72 Sports Tourer made in the “handbuilt division” of Schwinn’s old Chicago factory. What’s special about this frame is the fillet brazing. No factory welding marks at all. The bike looks like it was smoothly carved from a giant hunk of steel.

It needs a TON of work, but I’m excited to get stared. $40 was a steal, IMO.
