Why was life so bad for you in 2003?
My family disintegrated, I was living between my car and my friend's house, and I had developed a dangerous drug habit. Till this day I don't how I'm even alive, or escaped rape from the situations I put myself in and the people I surrounded myself with.

Oh, and right around that same time, Jerry Cantrell was an asshole to me and it broke my heart. :shake:

In spite of everything, their tour was the highlight of that year. I scraped up every penny I had to buy two tickets to see PJ around this time--something I absolutely couldn't afford. I remember driving two hours, in that same shitty Escort I slept in, having it break down on the off ramp and basically kicking the shit out of it till it turned on. I think Sleater-Kinney opened for them, I can't recall because I was fucking late and missed the opening act. I ran in as they started playing Long Road, because I remember hearing a Beatles song from a distance in the parking lot. Man... what a wild ride. I remember that show more than I remember seeing in them in '06, and I don't remember very clearly the time I saw them prior to that because I was in my teens. I was a very angry person back then.

It got worst again before it got better, and I have not seen a PJ show since '06. I somehow associated all the horrible things with that album and to tell you the truth, I don't even know why. Every album of theirs I listened to during that time did not have the raging effect that RA had. I still can't explain that.

Wow! Hopefully now listening to that same music and in a (hopefully) much better place in life, you can think of it as a celebration... You made it through all of that bad shit! Good on ya!

Yeah, I know. You have no idea how heartbroken I was when one of my idols was a dick to me.

Yeah, wtf?

Fun Fact: my wife and I once camped at Boggy Depot SP in Oklahoma... just because we liked that album so much :shake:

and i think that this is the precise reason that some people confuse it for being a good album -- they're using the steaming piles of shit that came after it as points of reference.
:?

Not only is Riot Act "not the worst Pearl Jam album" it's actually their second best album.
you forgot to add "that they released in 2003" at the end
Riot Act came out in 2002. And it *is* their second best album, though I am fairly sure Joey and I don't have the same first best.

I dunno. Being their second worst album is still pretty shitty. But I’ll admit when I’m wrong.
Chud's just pushing your buttons. He's a subtle troll, but harmless and loveable at the same time.

I like the good humor around here. Nobody's being serious ever. Very nice lot. :)

That's loyalty, right there. I haven't listened to Boggy Depot in sooooo long. I was really into Degradation Trip for a while, and well, we all know now how real life experience with Jerry turned out. :shake: Not totally gonna hate on the guy. He owes his fans nothing. Still managed to snag a picture with him, so it's a win in the end. :haha:

Similarly, I bought Ukulele Songs because of I love Ed so much even though I legitimately have never listened to it. The things we do for love.

you could make a best of compilation of the last 3 albums, and it's still not better than Riot Act

but shouldn't necessarily be construed as a ringing endorsement of riot act, rather an indictment of the last 3 albums.

I feel that with Riot Act the band, and especially Ed had something to say. It was highly personal, and therefore includes some of his best lyrics. Not sure I can say that for later albums.

I thought it was very popular around here.

It's pretty boring.
