Nunes played this extremely well, as cynical a realization as that may be. The sizable percentage of the country buying into this are going to believe the memo says what they want it to say, regardless of the contents of the memo itself. The content of the memo is practically irrelevant in terms of how it's impacting people.

Good job wishing for the death of 2/3 of the country.

We should probably wait to see the contents before judging his strategy. To quote Guy Fieri; "he aint the sharpest tool in the shed." The efforts to discredit it have made me more interested now because I had assumed it was some stupid OMG HER EMAULZ bullshit or the usual red team misunderstanding of how FISA works, but that isnt sexy enough to cause all this panic.

The e-mails are a fairly good comparison, actually, IMO. By the end of the campaign, the fact that there were e-mails was issue enough. What was in them? Whatever you wanted there to be. I just think two weeks ago we were talking about allegations of obstruction of justice, and now 60% of the time we're talking about a memo, which seems to mean it did what was intended. And if and when it's released, particularly if it's at all redacted, the contents of the memo will matter less for people than the fact that there is a memo. People will make it whatever they need it to be.

Guys these are literally always the numbers.
CNN’s instant polling among Americans who watched Tuesday’s State of the Union found an overwhelming majority reacting positively to President Barack Obama’s address, as it has four times previously during his presidency. The network’s poll found that 76 percent of Americans viewed the speech somewhat or very positively, in line with reactions to his previous speeches, although the percentage with “very positive” views declined. Last year, 77 percent of watchers reported a positive view of the speech to CNN
More than three-quarters of Americans who watched President Bush's State of the Union address had a positive reaction to it, although the reaction was muted from that in past years, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Forty-one percent of 370 adults who watched the speech said they had a "very positive" reaction to it. Another 37 percent said their response was "somewhat positive."
The “muted” response described above comes from previous speeches getting almost identical favorability, but slightly higher “very” v “somewhat” positivity scores than Bush did.

When your premise starts with “ok, Devin Nunes is a standup guy who can definitely tie his own shoes, and HE says....”

...then you’ll always end with bupkis

Trump sees Nunes memo as a way to discredit the Russia investigation
https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2018/02/01/poli ... ssion=true

President Donald Trump continues to tell his associates he believed the highly controversial Republican memo alleging the FBI abused its surveillance tools could help discredit the Russia investigation, multiple sources familiar with White House discussions said.

Fair, but:

"Four sources familiar with the memo told Reuters it accused the FBI and Justice Department of misleading a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge in seeking an extension in March 2017 of a warrant for a secret eavesdropping operation against Carter Page, an adviser to Trump’s 2016 campaign. "

If that's all it is, it changes nothing, and this will backfire spectacularly. They cannot be that dumb.

The majority of them wish death on whole swaths of people so why not return the favor?

75% sarcasm there.

So now they worry that it’s a dud. Not that it’s a bad faith practice. Not a manipulation of public perception, or a distraction from truth. Just...not good enough at those things to cause the desired damage.

Stay classy rectal polyps.

Basically this.
I guess it was predictable that when the FISA court process finally did take center stage in a public debate, it'd be in the stupidest way possible.
