I only watched the vid once but I think mike is an acoustic with stone on electric. Don't feel like watching it again.
I'd rather hope for a good studio version now than watch the video again. But I have downloaded the songs and put them on my MP3 player to try and listen to the organ and electric guitar. Those could improve it, depending on what's done.
I agree. If its a nice full RA sound over a circus cheese JB sound ill appreciate it more.
I'm all prepared for a blend of Backspacer pop with a bit more space and character. That's what we have with MYM. We shall see.

Thank you Wendy's Twin. I'm liking this one and glad that we have another Ed ballad on this record.

I wish Eddie would get angry and pissed off again.

listened to this for the first time in weeks just now.

the piano still makes me want to blow my brains out. actually no.. not my brains.. bob's and eddie's brains.

ignoring the piano, the song is still pointless.

just like this post.

This song's improved with some time away as well. I like the atmosphere. It's pretty, maybe saccharine, but that's OK. The worst thing about it might be the outro; Brendan should've gone round those chords twice, not the four times he does. Too much.

Ok, listened to this one.

Why? Why use this as a pj song? If you are going to, then why the fuck aren't stone and Mike doing anything to actually add to the song? It's like 3 simple chords. So many choices in instrumentation could have been utilized. Where is a pedal steel? Why aren't there some bongos or something? Nobody is doing anything except BOB adding horribly cheesy piano and ament hitting root notes on the bass.

Whats the point?

Listen again. Boom is playing some nice organ (that I'd like to hear more of in the studio) and I think Mike is playing a slide guitar. Don't know about Stone, but I doubt Matt will be able to keep his mitts away on the studio version. I don't think this will sound any more bare than TMW or JB.

Yea and that's what I don't like about those two tracks as well...

The slide guitar is there for a small portion but not much else

Is the small portion the choruses? I dunno. I hope all the instruments just don't come in for their little bits, then go out again (as Brendan's piano does... eek).

So, having seen this artwork now, I am trying to place some kind of meaning to this.

My wife and I attended the Wrigley show, and a couple in front of us had just gotten engaged that day. The bride to be had never been to a PJ show, and he had seen a couple of shows only. They start this song, and it's like an instant snuggle fest between these two. They're hugging and swaying, staring into each other's eyes, etc... It very immediately affected them. I'm not saying it has anything to do with the quality of the song, it's just as expected for them in that situation. My wife turns to me, and says "ugghhh... that's like going to be "their song" forever now".

Her first reaction was, "OK song, kinda lovey-dovey cheesy, but whatever". I drag her to PJ shows, she likes going, but is not long-term addicted like i am. My reaction was complete boredom. Still is, really...

However, a couple weeks ago, I had just got the audience recording of the whole show burned to a CD, and we were playing it in the car on a drive with our toddler asleep in the car seat in the back. I turn and look to her, and she is bawling, crying.... I'm like "really, I didn't think you like this song"..... She starts to tell me about how much it was making her think of our son, and how special he is, and how much she loves him. She wants the song set to a montage of pictures of him growing into a toddler.

Now, I see this artwork today, and I think she's on to something. This is more than just a love song, goofball shit. Could actually have some depth, and represent not just just future days between two lovers, but future days well after the lovers are gone, their children living on, having a lasting impact on the people that we love. The talking genitals with the heart centered, kind of represents children and our love for them, doesn't it? The lyric, "We may die, but they still live on", a pretty obvious reference to children...

So, anyway, ultimately, my point is this - This song comes across bland and cheesy. Played live, it didn't really impress at all. However, if you are settled down in life and think about the world through your children's eyes, this song could connect, and with a little polish, could be a gorgeous song on the record. The artwork seems to support that, imo

It's a real possibility.

And if MYM is track two, "They're taking young innocents and then they throw 'em on a burning pyre" might really add to this, especially given the lovers covered in branches "effigy" thing the FD artwork has going on.
