Movie: The Cloverfield Paradox (Netflix)

Post by E.H. Ruddock »

So, yeah, like VG said, this is a mess, but a little bit of a fun one. The glaring plot hole for me though:
Spoiler: show
They didn't really explain any of that weird shit that was happening. Like the dude's arm. Or the worms in the guy, or that guy getting attacked by the metal putty. And when they took the station back, did all that stuff go with them? Because the monsters appeared when they left, I assume. Not when they came back. Ugh.

But:
Spoiler: show
The monster(s) were already there when they got back from the parallel universe, so things were already in motion before they came back with their freaky ship

Yeah I don't know, that is what I'm confused about.
Spoiler: show
Because they were there when they got back, so was it a result of the initial firing of that machine?

With all of that being said, I thought the acting was actually pretty decent in this movie aside from one character. It was just the plot holes that bothered me.

Its a very good idea that suffers from really weird directing choices...the plot holes, all the moments were they said thing like : we need to hyperventilate the ship¨ and you think...wtf? There is a lot of that.

But i love the cloverfield saga. I love the main idea of having these movies linked.

I've got a liberal arts degree, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Neal DeGrasse Tyson spent the night crying himself to sleep.

It did keep my interest, though. I guess because of the ties to the other movies.
Spoiler: show
Another big plot hole for me was how they kept losing huge parts of the ship, but in the end that collider thing still worked, lol.

Are we really using a spoiler tag for this? Anyone can go watch it right now and then come back.

Spoiler: show
I wish that monster at the end would have popped out of the clouds and then the lander had just gone right down its throat.
The end.

I watched it twice. I'm pretty sure the two were far off from each other.

So I thought the conceit for the first movie was that it was a satellite that fell from space and woke up the Cloverfield monster, but what I'm reading here is that the monster came from the space station.
Reeves also pointed out that the final scene on Coney Island shows something falling into the ocean in the background without an explanation. This may have been either the satellite owned by the fictional Japanese media company, Tagruato, or the creature itself. A company news piece on the Tagruato website mentions that a piece of the Japanese Government's ChimpanzIII satellite fell off into the Atlantic. Producers Bryan Burk and J. J. Abrams also revealed their thoughts on possible sequels to Entertainment Weekly. According to Burk, "The creative team has fleshed out an entire backstory which, if we're lucky, we might get to explore in future films". Abrams stated that he does not want to rush into the development of the sequel merely because the first film has been a success; he explained that he would rather create a sequel that is true to the previous film.[82]
Also:
A fourth film in the franchise, Overlord, has recently completed filming and is currently set for release in October 2018.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overlord_(2018_film)

Plot[edit]

In 1944, two American paratroopers are shot down over Normandy in the midst of the D-Day invasion and they discover that the Nazis are using supernatural forces against them.
Huh.

Apparently at 18:30 in this is when they fire the particle accelerator. Same time in Cloverfield is when you hear the first rumblings from the monsters

i enjoyed this, too, and actually watched it again just a few weeks ago. it’s not great, but as someone else said the acting was mostly solid and it had some entertaining moments.

i’m a sucker for these movies, though. i’d probably be ok with there only being all of these unique satellite movies with their own stories that never address the central monster mystery directly. at this point i don’t really care about why/how these things came to earth.
ah, copperplate, a font for the truly modern man.
