What if they wrote movies first?
I mean....those movies don’t inspire much confidence.

They did an amazing job for about three seasons and then it all went to shit. Not coincidentally, GRRM stopped working on the show right when it started to suck.
Ideally GRRM would have finished the last two books and continued working on GOT. He certainly helps. But for me the second season was still the weakest. Lots of good stuff in later seasons.
Anders gets it.
I disagree.

that's exciting. I'm glad they are committing to multiple extended stories rather than the stand alones.

Mostly, I just hope this kills their stupid "Confederate" show that they had in the works for HBO.

Is it weird that they’d upstage the Solo trailer release like this?

I think it's more trying to instill confidence in longevity. Basically saying, "We know everyone thinks that TLJ under-performed but we don't think it did and we want to let everyone that we're please; so pleased in fact that we're announcing a SHIT TON of new stuff. There is nothing to worry about. Even if Solo tanks, it doesn't matter. Just know that all systems are go."
