Palahniuk Confirms 'Fight Club' Graphic Novel Sequel in the Works
by Alex Billington
July 28, 2013
Source: The Cult
It's true - we're getting a Fight Club sequel. At least, on paper to start. Author Chuck Palahniuk released a short memo on his official site stating that he is indeed writing a sequel to his original Fight Club story, first published as a novel in 1996. As an optimist, I'm hopeful that this means we may one day see this next story adapted into a movie to follow as a sequel to David Fincher's Fight Club adaptation from 1999. But until then, keep an eye out for the next Fight Club comic book series, which Palahniuk says still won't be out for a few years. "We haven't started to court a specific publisher, not until I hammer out the complete story."
Here's the full Fight Club statement released by Palahniuk, found on ChuckPalahniuk.net (via The Verge):
We've been following author Chuck Palahniuk since the very start on FS.net and have always sought out his adaptations, including Choke and Fight Club. His novel Snuff is currently being adapted with Daryl Hannah & Tom Sizemore, and there has been talk of Survivor and Invisible Monsters adaptations for years. This Fight Club graphic novel will be the first time Palahniuk has ever written directly for comics, even though his stories have been turned into comics previously. The story involves an unnamed narrator who embodies the character of Tyler Durden and creates an underground fighting club as radical psychotherapy. The film became a huge cult hit. We'll keep an eye out for this sequel and any other Palahniuk adaptations updates.About the graphic novel, it's true. Chelsea Cain has been introducing me to artists and creators from Marvel, DC and Dark Horse, and they're walking me through the process. It will likely be a series of books that update the story ten years after the seeming end of Tyler Durden. Nowadays, Tyler is telling the story, lurking inside Jack, and ready to launch a come-back. Jack is oblivious. Marla is bored. Their marriage has run aground on the rocky coastline of middle-aged suburban boredom. It's only when their little boy disappears, kidnapped by Tyler, that Jack is dragged back into the world of Mayhem.
It will, of course, be dark and messy. Due to contract obligations it can't come to light for a while. Next year is "Beautiful You," followed by the story collection. But since the Fight Club sequel will appear serialized in graphic form, my book publisher might allow me to launch it earlier than 2015.

What about romcoms? I mean, who the hell was clamoring for more madcap adventures of Sandra Bullock and Heather Burns as Gracie Hart and Cheryl Frasier? Or Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant as Bridget Jones, Mark Darcy, and Daniel Cleaver?
