Re: BOB vitriol / scape goat thread
correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember the band, minus Ed, worked on a lot of the songs on backspacer separately, then Ed and Bob put their evil magic on it. I feel like the band had no idea what BS turned out to be, but went with it anyway because they are weak. WEAK!

There is the bar in GR called The Bob. There is a stairwell that goes up to a 4th floor balcony. It took 3 people falling over the railing to their deaths before they decided to fix the low railings.
There's the dog. You can't fake that stuff. Confess with your mouth.

Re: BOB vitriol / scape goat thread
Man, I had high hopes for this thread because it's a worthy discussion.
Like someone mentioned before, producers act like gatekeepers and steer the band one way or another and influence arrangements. BoB does seem to interject himself a little more now, but I always thought that was because Boom has been banned to Hawaii during recording sessions and BoB is the most accomplished pianist the room. More and more PJ songs are built for piano/organ, so it makes sense. If the band didn't like his keys, they either didn't say it or they don't want to fight to get it back again.
I have quibbles with little things here and there, but here are some items I have loathed about BoB:
1. Doesn't care about the loudness of the music
2. The remix of Ten is unlistenable to me
3. Stupid piano bridge in "The Fixer"
4. Speed of Sound arrangement
5. ProTools editing of "Gonna See My Friend" is shoddy, probably the same with "Mind Your Manners"
As per point 1, I'm not positive how much blame goes on O'Brien because a lot of the extreme loudness (aural fatigue) comes from mastering, whereas Gateway Mastering I think has done most of the PJ albums (including Avocado). Gateway also did the Vs/Vitalogy reissues that are also hard to listen to. The unmastered Avocado songs give us a glimpse that the last two albums could have sounded far better.

I didn't think BOB had anything to do with Self Titled.
