The only thing that 'happened' to Supersonic happened the second someone fucking wrote it. It was hardly Brendan O'Brien's fault.

Oh OK yeah that makes sense. I get those confused too.

I sort of like the weird arrangement of SOS, but if B'OB butchers FD, the gloves come off.

Harmless, you're the drum guy, right?

One thing about Binaural is Matt's drum. I've assumed the fault was with Blake, because I loved Matt's sound with Soundgarden. NAIS for example, the drums sound sharp as in flat/sharp context. It kills me every-time I try to listen.

Is that Tcahd's fault or Matt's?

I don't see SOS being that out of place on Binaural honestly.

Yeah, drum guy, that's me. Matt's snare drum is frequently tuned too flat for me; it sounds too flabby very often. Sometimes it renders live versions unlistenable, and recently it's really ground my gears on studio stuff. I feel his drum tones work pretty well over most of Binaural and Riot Act. But songs like 'You Are' made me go WTF??? at first. Why he wanted such a fat snare on that song I still don't understand, I've just got used to it.

Not at all; less compression and more space to the recording and it'd fit fine.

Nothing As It Seems, Of the Girl, Rival, Sleight of Hand, Soon Forget and Parting Ways on Binaural are all still the original mixes.

The Blake mix of Insignificance is available on the NAIS single too.

Yep.

Breakerfall is the one I would like to hear in orig mix. The one on the album sounds like ass. Mike is playing guitar in the bathroom.

Ooof really? I quite like the sound of Breakerfall on the album. Love those shadow vocals. (Then again it's one of my favourite PJ songs so perhaps I'm biased.)

I'll admit I don't understand the complaints about Binaural's production either, but I'm sure they're there to be found. I too love those shadow vocals and I wish PJ still did that.

Do you like the sound of the drums? I remember people saying that it sounded like they were recorded under water.

Generally yes I do. Are people referring to the 'thinness' of the sound? Because I'll admit there's not a huge amount of 'roundness' to Binaural's production, but there's resonance to the drums and they're generally not produced to death. MYM's drums, for example, are much more 'dead'.

Is this to do with melodic instrumentation rather than rhythm section? If so I just haven't listened hard enough.

Just going off of memory the cymbals and guitars really have no brightness that helps drive a harder edged song. I think it works for the slower/mid tempo tracks. Gods Dice maybe was ok in that regards but I never listen to it anymore.
