There's a few scenes in episode 4, like when MIB is breaking out of prison and we see the control room being asked for an explosive effect, that make it seem as if there's very little that can happen off-script. Yet we see lots of stuff throughout that seems to be happpening "off the radar." I'm not sure anything happens without the park staff's knowledge.
This bothered me a bit as well. Sometimes they appeared to be reacting to the guests in real time and other times they seemed completely oblivious to things.

im willing to believe most of those "unseen actions" were obfuscated by Ford/whoever working in the background

Who gave this show a try initially because you knew there'd be all those tits?

Be honest.

Possible stupid question here, but Ford knew Dolores was going to kill him, right? If so, I'm surprised he didn't want to see the coming blood bath first.

I saw that my library had this on DVD and I reserved it. Turned out it was the 1973 movie. It's pretty lame, but I can see how you could make this into a kick ass show.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I watched most of this over the past couple of days, and all I have left is the last 45 minutes or so.

And I got impatient and read the thread and I can't agree with S_T more. There is a lot going on in the show. The plot is interesting, the story is complicated but can be followed. The twists all make sense, but aren't OMG Obvious.

But I dont give a shit about any of these characters. Like, at all. So many parts of this feel like their supposed to be haunting or make you ask yourself questions about AI and life and all that stuff... but it's just.... hollow.

Also, I think this would be a nice companion conversation to what me and Joey and Reid were talking about in the Twin Peaks thread a few days back. In there, I was trying to get across how I care so, so much more about the thematic resonances of Twin Peaks than I do the characters on the show or where the plot of the show is going; that doesn't mean that I think the characters are boring (some are quite quirky, while others feel more real, and others are stock but nonetheless fulfill a need--it's a nice mix), but that I think Lynch is working through something much deeper than "Cool story, bro." Westworld, on the other hand (as Skitch says above), is full of stock characters moving through the predictable motions of the plot that has to happen and the thematic resonances aren't all that interesting or original--we all sort of worked through this stuff when The Matrix first came out, and it's just that with a pinch of Frankenstein. Slick and cool-looking, sure, but hollow just like Skitch says.

I really enjoyed this series and am excited for Season 2!! :) There was so many layers to the first Season and the way it all played out was magnificent. Can't wait to see what happens next!

This show is really bad but for some reason I’ve watched five episodes. Sigh.

I really like the characters, especially the hosts. Evan Rachel Wood and James Marsden are both pretty fantastic IMO.

Ed Harris and Ingrid Bolso Berdal are the standouts, IMO.

I liked them as well and the show's unflinching depiction of innate human cruelty. It's got plot flaws though and inconsistent application of the rules of their world.

I HATE the Thandie Newton subplot. Everything grinds to a halt whenever she’s on screen.

I watched a YouTube video the other day that carefully went over the construction of Season 1's plot. I think it definitely made me appreciate the overall arc of the season more. But it didn't solve the problem that minute-by-minute the show was barely engaging at all. That said, I will probably watch Season 2. My prediction is:
Spoiler: show
As Dolores and her crew work on picking off the last few humans in the park, Maeve searches for her daughter and--even though she also has a vendetta against most of the people who ran the park--she tries to start working towards a more peaceful existence for the robots. The two lady bots come against each other with these worldviews. Ed Harris sneaks around. Characters talk about existence and consciousness. The end.
