Um... Academy Award NOMINATED cinematographer.
thanks :). this is the first thing of hers ive seen
No biggie. She made history by becoming the first woman nominated for Best Cinematography this year.

You should check out Dope. It's a great film. And I think you'd really like Fruitvale Station, though it's not really a fun time at the movies, if you know what I mean.
ive heard both are quite good

Disney's monopoly on our collective imagination tightens but we're all applauding it because of perceived racial progress. This is some dystopian shit.

What makes racial progress perceived rather than actual?

Black art being homogenized by the white, corporate mainstream so that it can be mass produced for children doesn't exactly strike me as positive change in our culture.

I would agree with that statement. But is that what's happening with Blank Panther? And, frankly, are a couple of white dudes the right people to make that call?

This is actually some ingenious marketing strategy. If you load up your corporate junk with concerted effort to appear racially empowering, it all but makes you invulnerable to criticism, and people think even less about shoveling their cash toward your product. I guess it makes sense that this is the only way we're truly going to make progress in America - united by artless commercialism.

I hardly think concern about a corporate entity whose product dominates our artistic landscape is cynicism.

I think the cynicism comes from the zero positive comments you've had about a movie you haven't even seen. You raise fair points however.

i think precisely zero people participating in this thread, myself included, are qualified to comment on the impact seeing yourself represented in mainstream art has on a people not used to seeing it.

and LVs comment about artless commercialism is less than worthless until he actually sees the movie
