Yes, but keep in mind that raw feelings are hard to put aside. I can say that now, after a couple hours, it looks like something the New Yorker would publish.theplatypus wrote:This is sanctimonious bullshit; I was always critiquing the cartoon, not anyone's feelings about it or the tragedyKaius wrote:It’s not always about the perception of winning or losing. This morning my daughter were looking at her school on Google Earth (she loves maps) and she starting saying "this is where we line up for the fire drill, but we don't go outside for the quiet drill". So I asked, what is that. She said it's where they all go in the closet and it's dark except for the teacher's flashlight. And the 'fun part' is that everyone has to be totally silent even if someone comes and knocks on the door. Broke my heart.

I've actually heard the pro-gun crowd saying this is the problem. We are teaching our kids to be weak, to not fight back, to not be strong. Over sheltered, over loved. The everyone gets a prize mentality has ruined our country.Bi_3 wrote:This morning my daughter were looking at her school on Google Earth (she loves maps) and she starting saying "this is where we line up for the fire drill, but we don't go outside for the quiet drill". 1 - I'm pretty sure the strongest person in the world, is not bullet proof?
2 - I don't care who you are? when a gunman opens fire on a crowd, majority of people will either run the other way, or panic and freeze.
3 - And I'm also pretty sure, its not too much love and sheltering that creates gunmen
My sisters a teacher and they just re-modeled parts of the school a few years ago as it was an old building. They actually had to change some things because of potential shooter situations (which way doors opened / where windows were).
Its heartbreaking these kids have "quiet drills"

I'm on team plat as far as that stupid cartoon goes. You want to feel some real emotions? Watch the video of Jaime Guttenberg's father talking about how he can't remember if he said "I love you" to his daughter the day she was killed.

And why exactly are we competing over which of all the associated content is the most emotionally affecting?meatwad wrote:I'm on team plat as far as that stupid cartoon goes. Yeah, not to be a Debbie Downer, but any real, lasting reform that won't get caught up in the courts for years will probably require a constitutional amendment. 2/3 of each house of Congress and 3/4 of state legislatures would have to support it.LoathedVermin72 wrote:We've got a lot of house cleaning to do before anything will happen.durdencommatyler wrote:If this new generation can be the ones to FINALLY do something about the gun issue in the country...![]()

Although this begs the question: can the Bill of Rights be amended? Could 2/3 of Congress and 3/4 of the legislatures rescind freedom of speech, for example? I'm not a scholar of this stuff, I dunno. Where's GH at?

Guys, in about five days something else will pop up and this gun control debate will die down again. Nothing ever happens. Ever.

Re: America..why won't you just ban the fucking gun?
I'm talking about the generation that is in high school now affecting change by the time they are my age. OBVIOUSLY this isn't happening in the next year or two. But if these kids run for local office and then become the leaders of tomorrow and then can affect real change by the time they have a majority power...
