Watching Planet Earth 2 now (in 4K), just beautiful.

I've been binge watching survivor lately. It truly is the gold standard for reality TV. Really compelling stuff.

Survivor is the best. Probably the only show outside of Game of Thrones that I try to watch the night it airs.HeyGuys wrote:I've been binge watching survivor lately. It truly is the gold standard for reality TV. Really compelling stuff.

I wrote it off for ages until my sister started watching it and I got sucked in.Monkey_Driven wrote:Survivor is the best. That's really tough. I always liked Boston Rob, but I usually have a couple favorites each season.HeyGuys wrote:I wrote it off for ages until my sister started watching it and I got sucked in.Monkey_Driven wrote:Survivor is the best. Finally started The Wire. We watched the first episode. It wasn't at all like I was expecting. The show feels so dated.

It doesn't get its hooks into you until pretty late into the first season. Keep watching.durdencommatyler wrote:Finally started The Wire. We watched the first episode. It wasn't at all like I was expecting. The show feels so dated.

Re: What are you currently watching on TV?
I will, for sure. I can't believe it's taken me this long to get around to it. But I'm definitely looking forward to the entire journey. I was just surprised at the tone/look of the thing. It looks and feels just like any regular network procedural from the early aughts. It doesn't feel like an HBO show (or at least what I've come to expect from an HBO show) at all, other than the swearing. Cast is great though.Monkey_Driven wrote:It doesn't get its hooks into you until pretty late into the first season. Keep watching.durdencommatyler wrote:Finally started The Wire. It's a good show, but I watched it when it was new. A bit surprised with some of the crazy love it has gotten, but I always liked it. Hopefully you will warm up to it.

I hate when people say a show doesn’t get good until later. There’s no fucking way I’m investing that much time in a weak show in the hopes it might get better eventually. TV shows are too fucking long.

Re: What are you currently watching on TV?
Yeah, I am kind of like this, but only because there is so much out there, I will weed through to get to good stuff. If you don't hook me by the second episode, I'm out. Where I fail is quitting a show when it gets shitty after starting out great. (TWD, The Strain, etc.)LoathedVermin72 wrote:I hate when people say a show doesn’t get good until later. Re: What are you currently watching on TV?
I get what you're saying. But it's really not that different from movies. There are plenty of movies that "don't get good" until later in the film. I get that an hour and a half isn't near the same time commitment but it's all relative. Sometimes things need a while to develop. TV is an excellent medium for long-form storytelling. I'm more than willing to give a show five or six episodes if it's well made. There's a lot to set up.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I hate when people say a show doesn’t get good until later. Having said that, though, The Wire is good. The first episode isn't bad by any means. It just wasn't what I was expecting.

I guess I do, too, sometimes. But it's pretty rare. I like a good slow burn.

Re: What are you currently watching on TV?
Either way, saying “give it 45 minutes” is a lot more reasonable than “give it eight hours”

Books as well. I was bored crazy 100 pages into Game Of Thrones when reading it in 2008. After the third book the series was one of my all time favorites. Happens all the time with books.

Yeah, I get that. I'm just saying it's the same basic thing when you extrapolate it out.LoathedVermin72 wrote:Either way, saying “give it 45 minutes” is a lot more reasonable than “give it eight hours”
