Black people stoked about Black Panther: "This movie is meaningful to us in terms of representation and seeing a large-scale blockbuster directed by a black person, with a largely black cast, that explores African culture and deals with themes relating to the African American experience"

Kendrick Lamar's soundtrack is also album of the century. Or at least that's what I'm supposed to think.

So the movie industry finally throws black people a bone and it's a shitty marvel movie. Black people can't catch a break.

Re: Black Panther (2018)
Awesome movie. Top tier (yes, Stip) MCU movie. Captured the characters VERY well. Quite loyal to the comics. One thing that a lot of people on the fence about Marvel movies should like is there is almost no references to the outside Marvel Universe. It was almost totally a self contained movie. Lots to like in it.
Let me tell you, Homer Simpson is cock of nothing!

Re: Black Panther (2018)
Vikings is an at times silly series that mixes historical characters born centuries apart, and uses actors from all around the world. The places it shows are placed wrong or doesn't exist. It's often filmed in Ireland.
Thor is just some Hollywood movie, that no one cares about, other than that it is a Marvel movie with a cute lead. Very little Scandinavian culture there.
But I get that people identify with what is close to their look and culture. If this movie was made with an all Central Asian cast, or an Indian cast, represented those cultures, and was of equal quality and acting, it would be a minor movie in Africa, and huge in Uzbekistan or India. Now people in Africa are dancing outside the cinema.
In Africa few watch the winter olympics, here it's everywhere. People watch it at work, talk about it at lunch. While for most people here, Black Panther is just an entertaining movie at the cinema.

There is a lot of ugly, mean spirited posting in this thread. But don’t worry. They’re just joking. And 1-2 of them have even seen the movie.Kaius wrote:This is somehow the most annoying thread on RM

If Anders is correct and people in Africa are dancing outside the theaters from a renewed sense of pride and self worth, well that’s pretty fucking cool.VinylGuy wrote:He is still figuring out if its cool to like it or not.Bi_3 wrote:Sorry they ruined your black panther partytheplatypus wrote:Black people stoked about Black Panther: "This movie is meaningful to us in terms of representation and seeing a large-scale blockbuster directed by a black person, with a largely black cast, that explores African culture and deals with themes relating to the African American experience"

Deadpool was hilarious for exactly that reason. Comic book movies, 9 out of 10 times, are fucking stupid and deserve to openly mocked by the cinematic equivalent of Dane Cook.stip wrote:verb_to_trust wrote:Only 14 year olds are intoPG 13 comic book moviesDeadpool

Re: Black Panther (2018)
I agree. There's a difference between African American culture and African culture. There's 1,2 billion people in Africa, and 57 countries. Lots of different cultures, and a lot are more in tune with their roots. The movie has been received with praise by many Africans, and I have not yet heard any backlash from those countries about the movie.
