The performance was fine. The coolest thing about it was that he was playing Tom's guitar.

Re: Oscars
I don't care. I thought it was outstanding and I was an emotional wreck during the entire performance. Just outstanding.

I saw Ed behind Streep early on, at the beginning of broadcast and pointed him out to my wife. I had no idea he was performing. I was like, "Why is Eddie Vedder even there and how did he get such great fucking seasts?!" It wasn't until the second time they said "coming up... a special performance by Eddie Vedder" going into a commercial break that I realized what was gonna happen, that he was gonna sing for the In Memoriam.
My wife and I always get emotional during that segment, anyway. She jokingly said, "Uh-oh. Are you gonna be okay?" We both laughed.
Then they announced he was not only singing a Tom Petty song but specifically Top of the World and there was no hope left for me. Game. Fucking. Over.
I thought Ed sounded great singing it, too. What a lovely tribute.

Re: Oscars
Also, I knew Annie was going to perform with Sufjan. But I still got all pumped when I saw her. That was also a really great performance.
Annie Clark and Eddie Vedder both performing at the same event on the same night.
Best. Oscars. Ever.

Did anyone see Kobe's animated short? I've heard very mixed reviews.

I wonder if the Kobe novelty factor won the day or if it is actually interesting/good.

Re: Oscars
Chuck Berry was on the list because he has appeared in a few movies, I don't think Petty did.darth_vedder wrote:I thought Vedder's performance was fine, but I kinda think it should be silent during that part. Also, why didn't Tom Petty get mentioned during the slideshow? I thought that was super odd considering they showed Chuck Berry.

Re: Oscars
My wife confused Sufjan Stevens with Cat Stevens, which was the lol moment of the night for me. She was very, very confused when she saw him.

I fuck ONE fish and everyone gets all upset. She does it and it wins an award. This is reverse-something for sure.
