I don't know, they've never pushed Christmas singles on their Facebook/Twitter profiles in this way before. It's being presented like a proper single, not just a 10C thing.

I also don't hear the Soundgarden/Cornell similarities at all.

I suspect they're going for some kind of sneaky dual release - they'll call this the "2017 single", so they can catch-up with the release schedule, but also release a public single version that's marginally different.

Musically - its a nice lil mid tempo PJ song with a good groove to it. Jeff is really playing some smooth bass lines
Vocally - really like Eds delivery on this one.
Lyrically - It seems like it wants to be political, but it might be one of those cases where its not.

This sounds like Riot Act era PJ to me, and I do love Riot Act. So yeah... Its growing on me with each listen.

Glad others thought it sounded like SG, or specifically CC. It took me a few minutes to place it, but the initial verse reminded me of Been Away Too Long, so maybe not stereotypical Cornell/Soundgarden but at least a specific moment.

I like that the song sounds rough. If they make an album in this style there could be some redeemable stuff on it, although I have a feeling its just an "ole" style release. It does make me think that if a new album comes out it could be better than the last two, so that's a positive.

Overall though, I find the lyrics a bit cringy, and the whole song kind of shit. I wouldn't show it to my friends. The cymbals sound awful and I don't think its just because of the 160kbs.

Finally gave this a few more spins. It's a solid B- or so. I like the hand claps and weirdness of it. Wish we had a higher bitrate version.

Listened two times and i like it. I like the weirdness of it..its a better version of what they are trying since BS maybe? A rock song thats more upbeat and pop. Ed sounds good yeah. And yes, seems more like a matt song.

Same. It has some aggression but it's not just yelling.

Middle of the road but feels and sounds more inspired than anything on LB.

I think the guitars are rather sinister in their tone and melody. I like that. Lyrics on paper look awful, though I like the way they are delivered and fit into the groove. I like how Ed is fully committed to....umm.... having a voice that cracks and falls all over the place. It works in the verses. The melody and lyrics of what might be the chorus are almost awful though.

When ed finally lets out "breathe" at the very beginning is great. Its almost like a cartoon car revving up before taking off and spinning out of control

Laughter into the delivery of "pitiful" is nice.

What I like about this song is it does not feel as if it were strictly written for a huge arena with a big singalong chorus. They probably wont play it because of that, but im fine with that.

Ed sounds more like an impersonation of the lead singer of Blur in the verse, rather than CC

the guitarwork is probably the weakest spot in this song, sadly. Ed is trying. Matt's drums sound deeper than usual, which is nice. But the guitars are unimaginative and flimsy. And the song structurally goes nowhere

a little more optimistic on what else may have come out of these sessions, however; assuming this is actually the xmas single (i.e. weakest song of the lot) as opposed to the album single

if the latter - talk about a limp-wrist way of rolling it out, eh? WTF is with that. do any other bands release shit like this with so little conviction behind it?
