Yeah, I agree with that. They should of maybe just left it an Ed solo track, or chosen a different song for S/T.

The demo is still bad. Of course the band arrangement in the album version is lazy and unimaginative, but the base composition is so sluggishly boring from a musical point of view that I don't see how any harmonic or rhythmic flourishes could ever save it.

Yeah, after Gone, it's probably my next least favorite.

Gone is good.
The album version is better than the demo.

The demo is superior to a turd, so it's still a turd anyway you hear it. It's also really boring live.

The Gone demo is great, far from a turd. Very atmospheric.

Really? This album has aged well for me
I can't say I ever listen to it anymore.
I rarely listen to it, but I really like about half the songs. Marker, LW, Parachutes, Severed Hand, Unemployable, and Army Reserve are my glass half full outlook.

Calling it a turd was probably a little too far. I just listened to the demo, I do indeed like it better than the full band version. The vibe of the song comes across more. The demo is actually pretty solid.

Not a bad list. I would have Come Back in there as well.

Good things about "Unemployable":
- Matt's nifty ride cymbal work in the intro and middle 8
- Vocal harmonies in the chorus
- Contrapuntal arpeggios in the chorus
- The shift up into the "I've seen the light" section
- The cool high-up bass in the outro, giving the song a whole new color

Honestly it's far from one of my favorite PJ songs; the lyrics are pretty bad, I don't like the verses, and the "oh-oh-oh-oh" part really does sound like Shania Twain. But it's got enough interesting details about it that I still prefer it over 75% of an album where the whole approach seems to have been "nevermind details, let's rawk"

Yeah...the demo and the full band take are both very unremarkable.

Really, I think this record holds up fairly well up to and include Unemployable. It just starts to fumble in the back half, IMO.

The lyrics ruin anything good about it
