Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
Why can't they use instant replay on plays like that again? If you're going to use it for HRs, might as well use it for close plays at the plate. Hopefully this won't mean anything come October.

I like the response, but good god, that article reads like a petulant 16-year-old Red Sox fan's Facebook post.MattA75 wrote:http://boston.cbslocal.com/2013/07/30/red-sox-rays-engage-in-twitter-fight-after-shift-in-al-east-standings/

The Peavy deal seems like a really good trade for Boston. I thought Chicago would have retained some of his salary to get a better return.

Can't believe all we had to give up was 3 low A prospects and Iglesias to get Peavy
Iglesias is coming back down to earth at the plate and his value was never going to be higher. His glove is spectacular, but we have Bogaerts in the wings, and I still think Middlebrooks at worst is a .260, 20 HR, 85 RBI third baseman (and he's been good defensively at Pawtucket in the 35 games or so he's been down there, and his plate discipline is getting better too).
I guess the only thing that sucks is that Iglesias went to Detroit, who is one of our main playoff competitors for the foreseeable future, but whatever, he's probably the Hispanic version of Adam Everett.
But a foursome in the playoffs of Buchholz, Lester, Peavy and Lackey is certainly promising.

Consider that Church, is much better than an unavailable Peralta.

At first I was surprised and not too impressed. Now, I kinda like the deal.

I think it's a stupid deal. I don't really hate it, but I don't like it and it's not a move I would have made.

Honestly can't remember one; I vaguely remember John Valentin's unassisted triple play, though.

I mean I don't remember seeing one either but I'm not about to definitively say I've never seen it. It's not something you see everyday but I'm sure you'll stumble across a couple over the years.

Re: Boston Red Sox Thread
This page makes it seem like it's pretty rare (i.e., the fact that no one in the NL has ever had more than 2 in their career), but a quick Googling shows that it was done earlier this season, as well:

Also, apparently there was an 18-year gap between them from the 70s to the 90s: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1 ... 64,1683076
