I haven't listened to it a second time yet. I'll just wait for the record at this point. They're just about my favorite band out there right now. I'm in, no matter what.

Jesus. Seriously, this could be a debut album. It's like they're starting over. I mean, the album is quintessential Decemberists, to the bone. The core, the root of the album is familiar. But it's so unexpected at the same time. Like a band ready to reinvent themselves. This is anything but an extension of the last album. This is a conscious shift and I really love it. At times it has a pure 80's electro-pop feel but it never feels forced or gimmicky. It's totally earned and fair game.

Wow.

This band is so fucking good.

This opening track sounds like something that would play during the conclusion of an 80's high school movie and I mean that in the best of ways.

Also, I'll Be Your Girl might be the best closing track in the entire Decemberists catalogue.

The I’ll Be Your Girl vinyl features etched messages that say “Impeach the President” and “Bring on the Matriarchy”

It's too bad Lin-Manuel couldn't figure out how to get this into Hamilton. I mean, I get it. But Franklin is about the only thing I can dream of that could possibly improve an already mind-melting and impressive show.

I think I'm finally ready to rank The Decemberists catalog:

Her Majesty the Decemberists
What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World
The Crane Wife
Castaways and Cutouts
The Hazards of Love
I'll Be Your Girl
Picaresque
The King is Dead

What A Terrible World higher than The Crane Wife? Wow that's something.
I agree with most of the rest.
