It's primarily the production aesthetic, though the performance itself seems to takes cues from that faux-bohemian campfire festival stomp-along vibe that I hate in popular music, so that's not doing it any favours either.

It's just an overwhelmingly unpleasant song to listen to.

Though I agree with Jorge's take on this, I have to say that this post helped me understand why people would dislike this song. If I heard in the song what you're describing, I'd dislike it too. This finally makes sense to me.
