Yeah, I’m watching hockey and having some drinks. I was just in Europe chaperoning a school trip for two weeks. Had a single beer maybe 4 times. I’m okay, I think.

I just think HWIC is one of the most interesting songs the band has ever recorded. I like quirky off kilter PJ, and the song is right up my alley. Also, do I hear a theremin? Songs like this, and the others on my list is why I’m such a fan of the band’s past work, and a big reason why I don’t care for their later day sound.

It's such a bizarre song. One of those songs you got to listen to several times because of its strangeness. Very addicting. I approve.

Variety and experiments with sounds is what I always loved about Pearl Jam. It's a shame that somehow that variety was lost on their more recent albums. It's what made them unique. It's also the reason Evil Little Goat is a guilty pleasure of mine, and similarly, why I love Lost Dogs so much.

I think it's like a 25 percent/18.5x4 share.

Impossible to say for certain (some bands have different money splitting arrangements than others) but conventional wisdom would indicate that considerably more, since his name is in way more songwriting credits than the rest.

First couple of tours had more of an equal share agreement, but then it was changed around Vitalogy, to provide more for Ed, for the reasons given above. Songwriting credits count on all the albums as well of course.

How does that sort of stuff not put a strain on a band? I mean, if I were Ed, I'd feel incredibly uncomfortable taking more than my friends, especially since I sort of came in late. Unless of course, I'm pulling all the weight, which doesn't seem like what's happening in this case.

It did put a strain on the band. During Vitalogy/No Code they could have broken up. While making Yield times had changed, they had worked with Neil Young, Cobain and the Seattle scene had gone, Jack Irons was massively important in keeping a good mood (and Matt C was later the perfect choice as a replacement). They had also agreed on a lot of issues and the path forward. Still they made jokes about past problems, like Ed smiling and saying Stone was the problem. It wasn't until this century they could talk more freely about it, admit and explain things.

It's easy as a fan to love Ed/the band and think of the millions they are making. But many other bands have broken up, and if you are in a working environment yourself, and your colleague starts getting more say and more money than you, even if you have worked there for about the same amount of time, then you might react on it as well.

Do they talk more freely about their interpersonal issues now, though?

None of know what they've talked about in private obviously but (as has been pointed out in a few threads on here recently) I don't get the sense that Ed and Stone have a particularly warm relationship, perhaps even less now than before.

To a degree they have opened up over the years about the past. Which is why we know a fair amount of details about it. But I'll agree that if there is any sort of current issue, we don't hear anything about it. This isn't the Eagles.

i missed the part about Ed's misplaced emotions about his failing marriage driving an identity crisis and manopausal scapegoating event on Dave A followed by sustained temper tantrumming into Stone ceding control of his band and being taken hostage for the next couple decades

i hope stone is able to form a band again at some point with a lead singer whose skills are up to par with his
