About guns? First we need to dispassionately acknowledge that different groups will require different approaches and that is unlikely to happen. Mental healthcare is certainly gonna be a huge part of it.

I also believe there is less crime in the 21st Century, than in any century before it. Not including all the people being killed in the great wars. So the narrative that now is worse, is probably not true. Still doesn't mean that things shouldn't change. Especially mentally unstable people, should not be allowed to buy guns.

Or people with a history of violent crime. Or people who live with someone with a history of those issues.

Gun violence is highly correlated with men, no doubt. But masculinity is a culturally driven trait and we don’t have an example of a modern society or culture where women have held primary responsibilities for resource defense or norm enforcement. It’s possible if the roles were reversed it would be equally as bad.

That was kind of my point. Many of the leading causes of gun deaths are related to mental health, misguided masculinity, and drugs/acohol. Tough to fix everything. Gun regulation by comparison is much easier.

Native Americans did not kill one another within the tribe. Its pretty well documented. Sure in wars between tribes, but even today we say theres a difference between killing in war, and murder.
I cant remember which book I read it in? Possibly "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee" but they have found no word for "murder" in any Native language.

If I had my history of the Mohicans book here, it documented the first "murder" within the tribe. It was an alcohol induced rage and a gun.

For me this all boils down to a couple things:

Guns are way too easy to obtain in this country
Military-grade weapons are allowed to be owned by civilians that serve no purpose other than to kill as many people with as little effort as possible, because they are "fun to shoot."

Solutions:
Make legal gun ownership more of a process, like getting a driver's license, and include a mental health examination and criminal background check for all gun purchases regardless of where it takes place.
Ban assault weapon ownership. If you want to get your rocks off shooting a machine gun, go to a licensed business that allows you to shoot them on the premises.

I acknowledge that criminals who want guns will still be able to get them through black market avenues, however I don't believe that the majority of mass shootings are committed by your average "criminal" who wants a gun typically for protection or to commit a crime like an armed robbery. Not sure of the statistics but it seems that with most mass shootings, the guns were obtained legally and with ease.

Same could be said about the left. But that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be talked about. That’s how you come to a consensus. Don’t be so dismissive of people’s opinions. My argument is that kids should be better imformed. They’re right in protesting and I’ll defend it until my death. Just don’t forget that there’s a person (and people) who pull the trigger and that needs to be talked about. Get facts straight too. I hate that everyone’s so grossly divided.
