I went to see part of the Noir City event the Alamo Drafthouse near me is doing this weekend. Six Film Noir movies introduced by Eddie Muller and James Ellroy in person. It was pretty great. After they introduced the movie, they came up into the theater to watch the movie, and they sat two seats away from me. So I pretty much sat there and watched a movie with Eddie Muller and James Ellroy. And the movie (Wicked as They Come) was great! And it was shown in 35mm!

Going back tonight for round two - a 35mm showing of He Walked by Night, which I’ve seen and love.

My Friend Dahmer.

It was ok. It wasnt as visual or macing i was expecting but it made a good job creating the Dahmer guy. The scene with him at the end in the house is fucking creepy.

Annihilation wasn't as good as it should have been. The trailers were better than the movie.

Was it because of who the actors are?

I thought the four women were strong but the script didn't really give them a lot to work with. It thinks it's this character driven film but it really never gives the characters any room or time to bond.

Well, neither did the book. They were after each other almost immediately.

I know, it's a different medium. But it was there in the source.

I thought it was mostly boring. Both Portman and Jason Leigh seemed so bored.

The writing was horrendous and everyone (including the professional actors) gave terrible performances.

I heard Jennifer Jason Leigh's performance is confusing. Is this true?
