I wouldn't be outraged if they recast Leia for a brief scene or two if it is tastefully done and serves the story. It would be really weird though.

Not if it served the story. It's kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario based on how important her character is to the Resistance. I guess it would work to omit her if there is a big enough time jump.dimejinky99 wrote:THat would be entirely pointless though no?

Listening to a pod earlier and a super heated debate about Anakin force ghost appearing to kylo and valid points both sides, if it serves the story it makes perfect sense / why hasn’t he admonished kylo before this point etc.
I’d be for him turning up but cos of what happened to Carrie and knowing they fired treverrow and jettisoned his story, I can’t see a way to include her at all outside of mentioning her passing as a galvanising moment that inspires the galaxy to rise against the first order. Sure there could be a way to involve her in the film, but should they is a different matter.

Isn't that what Luke's astral projection did?dimejinky99 wrote:Listening to a pod earlier and a super heated debate about Anakin force ghost appearing to kylo and valid points both sides, if it serves the story it makes perfect sense / why hasn’t he admonished kylo before this point etc.

Good point. One they will probably double down on through Leia and how they deal with her.

That's not Star Wars, that's the internet, buddy. And let's not act like we haven't seen some of our very own do this exact thing.dimejinky99 wrote:Star Wars is so weird.
Some fan starts a petition to get Streep to replace Fisher.
News sites start reporting it as a casting rumour.

Leia. Absolutely. Hands down. No question. The character is far more important and valuable than the actress that played her. She's bigger than Carrie.stip wrote:I was initially against a recasting of Leia (I think) but if you got the right actress I suppose it could potentially works. Only worth doing if Leia is really at the core of the story. If it is as a secondary supporting character I'd just as soon write around her.
I guess do you feel more loyalty to the character (Leia) or the actress in the role (Carrie Fisher)

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
But I do think story should dictate. If there's a way to write around Leia, then fine. But if we need Leia, give Leia.
For example, if Mon Mothma can do the same things Leia was gonna do, then let's get Mon Mothma back. But if it has to be Leia, I don't want the story to suffer just because Carrie is gone. Leia isn't gone yet.

The recast would be weird.
Im not sure i could feel that one while watching the movie...it would be distracting.

We were almost certainly gonna see a reunion between Leia and kylo. And that would have been the heart of it all. Even if that is still on the table would we accept a recast?
I’m not sure we would.

The only persons that can do it now are Rey, Luke, or Anakin ghost.dimejinky99 wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:But I do think story should dictate. If there's a way to write around Leia, then fine. But if we need Leia, give Leia.

I'll beat this drum until I'm dead but... I would have no problem accepting it. In fact, I prefer a re-cast. But I'm not everyone. I know I'm in the minority on this. I'm sure JJ will make it work. But I'll always wonder what could have (should have?!) been.dimejinky99 wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:But I do think story should dictate. If there's a way to write around Leia, then fine. The what could have been question is going to haunt episode 9 for years regardless of what actually happens in it.

Ultimately, these stories are about the new characters and i dont think the story will suffer all that much.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)
Sure. But Leia seems to have a quite a bit of unfinished business with the new characters. I'm sure they'll make it work but I do think had Carry lived, she would be just as crucial to this final chapter as Han was to TFA and Luke was to TLJ.Strat wrote:Ultimately, these stories are about the new characters and i dont think the story will suffer all that much.

Its also kinda for the best after Carrie´s actual skill for acting. She was the worst part in both of the new movies.
