You can hear it quite clearly. It's overdubbed on the studio version and fades in and out of certain parts, but on SVT he plays it exclusively as a cymbal and he did so during the Australian/NZ/Hawaii 98 tour.
Were it not for SVT, would you ever know he's playing a trashcan lid?
I'm not sure that's where I found out about it. But listening to the studio version - I wouldn't be able to tell that's what it was, no. But I'd probably be thinking "what's that fucking cool clicking noise that keeps fading in and out?" It's such an unusual part for him to try it on but works so well for some reason.
I guess if it wanders in and out and is peripheral to the drumkit, I'd call it percussion. If he had been using a trashcan lid instead of a snare drum or something I would've noticed and found it a lot cooler.

I love DTE and I love the animated video someone made for it. They go together perfectly

I agree, but jacks work never stood out on it for me

Yeah it's all about Ed's vocals for me.
And your sexy beard, Stippy.

Oddly enough, I think the thing I like most about his song is Ed's delivery.

There's nothing odd about that at all.

Ed's vocal on this song is incredible.

How do you feel about the song outside of that component?

It's only odd because Ed's vocals have been so touch and go since RA. Most people would say since Binaural. But I say RA.

I like it a lot, too. But I'm more into Let It Ride right now. Not sure why. This one is usually more my kind of tune.

Oh me too.

I know you did that alt RA with the bsides in (which is awesome). Have you done that with these guys and S/T?

I think the melody during the first line of lyrics ("He scared himself...") is identical to certain guitar notes from "Shine on you crazy diamond" by Pink Floyd

No, they quality of these is too poor and they wouldn't match with the other material sonically.

Can I ask if anyone has queried who leaked these, why now and what point they are trying to make by doing so?

I remember the Navy Bean incident back in '07 - perhaps we can speculate that these actually were available back then and merely were kept under wraps by the PJ Illuminati until it suited them - i.e. prove that the fanbase wants to hear this kind of thing, not the poppy/new wave stuff that Backspacer / Lightning Bolt contain.

Also - track 3 and track 6: may I have 1,2,4 and 5, and any more that exist please?

I think there must have been 6 songs leftover which were earmarked as the Avocado EP which has been mentioned by Mike. There obviously wasn't enough enthusiasm to finish them off but perhaps there is a CD floating out there that was circulated. I can see that someone with a copy may have leaked it after seeing a lot of disappointment with the new songs debuted at Wrigley. The timing of the leak seems pretty critical.
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.
