20% absolutely. The service has to be utterly unforgivable for me to tip less than 20%. I think I've only done it like twice in my entire life. I start at 20%. I'll go higher if the service is exceptional.--- wrote:No, 20-25% is not the new normal. It isn't my fault those on the wait staff made terrible choices in life.

Re: On tipping
i usually stick with 20% unless i know them. if the tab is low i'll usually tip more.
I am getting pretty sick of every business having a tip jar. Im not fucking tipping you for putting donuts in a box. waiters make less than minimum wage.

Agreed. Plus, you just move the decimal point once and double, after a proper night out this fact is handy.durdencommatyler wrote:20% absolutely. I usually give more to trainees or people we can tell are new, even if the service is rough.

I'm even that asshole who will slip a tip even if someone else is picking up the check. If I think they aren't tipping enough, I'll find a way to put more down for the poor gal/guy.

Re: On tipping
The other day, the delivery guy at my favorite pizza place was sick, so one of the owners came up to deliver the pizza himself (I live three blocks away). I was caught off-guard and didn't know whether to tip him or not. I mean, he's bringing me pizza, but... he's also one of the owners. I panicked and threw some money at him.

My boss took us out to lunch. The tip he left was pretty bad. Not despicable bad, but not good either. Its not even his money. Its the company's!

So Drew Brees certainly is getting a lot of slack for a $3 tip on a take out order.
