I hate that. I also hate that Facebook and Twitter have news tickers on the side that you can't get rid of.

If I want the news, I'll seek it out. I don't need that clickbait bullshit constantly reminding me the world is terrible.

And they wonder why everyone that uses their platforms is miserable and angry.

Sinclair has a stranglehold on local T.V. stations... Fox has the highest cable news ratings...

That "mainstream" media is really destroying America.

At least iHeartMedia just filed for bankruptcy.

What about Sinclair has made it succeed in terrestrial radio? I thought that radio couldn't bring in the ad revenues that it used to, but maybe your or Chud could better inform me on the current state of radio.

Freudian slip?

Seems like they might be bigger in TV than radio, so maybe this has nothing to do with anything

Yeah Sinclair is primarily TV unless I'm mistaken.

The thing about that is that you really have to know the background story to get it. The scripted statement by itself is pretty anodyne if you don't.

The 'right wing' which I don't really know what else to call that sect of trash own the majority of local news stations and run the number one rated cable news station all while claiming to be the under dog fighting the good fight against the liberal media majority.

I guess portraying yourself as the underdog is appealing?

The fact that fox is number one doesn't really disprove the majority of media is liberal. They just don't have any competition. CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, and msnbc compete with each other, to say nothing of blatant left leaning channels like Comedy Central, espn, and about a dozen others. They're the only game in town for the other side on cable.

I think trump saw a chance to make some money by competing directly with fox, but those plans were ruined when he accidentally won the election.

Eh. Maybe. I need to look at numbers but it doesn't matter. Fox by itself is still number one in viewership. This argument will just go in circles.

ESPN is blatant left leaning? That's a random selection.

In Broncosland we've been pretty fascinated by the murdering of the Denver Post.

The newspaper I worked at for 14 years had 600 employees and was the second-largest employer in Mesa, AZ when I started in 2001. When I left in 2015 we had less than 30 employees.

We were a Pulitzer-winning newspaper with a reputation for in-depth, hard-hitting investigative journalism.

Readers and advertisers left us in droves for the pandering drivel that the AZ Republic shits out.

Fuck you, America.

This seems to be a major facet of Republican party messaging in general. The fact that they can do this despite holding a narrow (albeit flimsy) majority on the Supreme Court, the Presidency, both houses of Congress, most governorships and the majority of state legislatures is a testament to the success of that messaging. It's a part of their media messaging, and it's the crux of their messaging in regards to issues on college campuses as well. The liberal horde is always one step away from swallowing the determined few voices of conservatism.
