I should have made that fucking movie. Everything i read about the book sounded perfect. Like it was right there. And they fucked it up.

Never heard about the book but i wasnt expecting anything good from the movie so maybe thats why the trailer looked totally generic and boring.

Re: The Cinematic Motion Picture News Thread
I read the book when it was published - it was my first year in the military so I took what was on the PX shelf - and it was ok. I read it again in anticipation of the movie and holy crap. There's a possibility that the movie could be good but they'd have to make some concessions. I can't watch the video right now but I didn't start with high hopes so I don't think I'll be too crushed when I finally do.LoathedVermin72 wrote:I got so excited when I saw this trailer came out...and then soooooo disappointed when I watched it. I read it when it came out too. I don't remember a single thing about it.

Re: The Cinematic Motion Picture News Thread
OK, I watched the trailer last night. The book was written like Jurassic Park: The Lost World in that you could see someone doing a pretty straight adaptation and it would work. I think they read the book and followed some broad strokes but the strokes are so broad it's like when you copy something and then copy that copy and then copy that copy over and over until the original is tilted to the side and badly mangled. Oh and then they watched Deep Blue Sea for directing/casting choices.
I can't see myself watching this any way other than for free at this point.

Well everyone is hellbent on outrage these days so I can see this being the source of outrage in question

Eh I don’t really know how much that kind of outrage even travels at this point beyond insular liberal circles. There was a similar “controversy” around Ghost in the Shell but nobody really cared that much in the end. Although maybe that’s because nobody really cared about that dumb movie anyway.

NAah it’s happened quite a bit. I don’t care for it either way.
There was similar outrage in certain gay quarters cos the two main leads in Call me by your name were both straight actors and why weren’t gay actors cast in the roles blah blah blah.
I don’t care for that bullshit

You’ve just reminded. Outrage in Star Wars when Filoni said captain Rex can be seen in return of the Jedi and a lot of the fanbase got outraged cos all the clones are meant to be Maori and get the guy in ROTJ is clearly white.
People are outrage addicted assholes. None more than Star Wars fans.

Or maybe some people just think representation matters and that Hollywood has been racist, elitist, and tone def far too long. But, sure, reduce it to "everyone is assholes," sure.

Don’t put words in my mouth. I was saying people are addicted to outrage these days and they’re assholes about it. Nothing to do with representation at all, people just love complaining. About everything.
