Jeff Ament - Heaven/Hell

When a band is but a fraction of Pearl Jam, but they aren't zero Pearl Jam.

So clearly the case that there isn’t even room for subjectivity.

You can feel differently if you want to. That’s the magic of independent thought. My first listen on Can’t Deny Me was negative but slowly got better. My first listen to Safe in the Car was that I couldn’t wait to order this thing. I wish Safe in the Car was a Pearl Jam first single in this full glory (Jeff Ament vocals and all).

I get it. Jeff, Matt, and Mike jammed this songs face off in front of Ed. Ed couldnt come up with vocals/lyrics so he kicked it aside. Jeff then returned fire and said "YOU CANT DENY ME!"

and boom. The pj shit turd appeared.

i wonder if these are songs that jeff wrote – and possibly brought – to PJ recording sessions over the past year or so, that weren't chosen, and he knew they'd never be used

Didn't he do a solo version of one of the S/T outtakes that leaked? Only Cloud in the Sky, I think.

yeah, he did The Forest song too, which i think was a song the band tried in the studio, but didn't use

Right. Yeah, so there's precedence. Wouldn't surprise me if the same happened for the most recent sessions.

I'm sorry, but every single thing Jeff puts out is just cream pie bad.

"cream pie bad"

An expression with which I am unfamiliar, and though I assume I disagree with its usage in this regard, plan on using every day, EVERY DAY.

First impressions are an interesting thing. My first impression of Can't Deny Me was meh. I ended up listening to it way more than expected. There were a few car rides where I habitually hit play over and over, something stuck about even though it's so basic. The cowbell maybe?

My first impression of Jeff's single was "Wow!" and "man why can't the band try interesting things like this". Also the video is cool to. I expect to get back to it, but I'm not exactly playing it on repeat. At the end of the day, his voice is a major weak spot and his lyrical style is just plain clumsy as it always has been. There's actually a hook in the song that he just didn't hone into enough, but that could be a prejudgement.
