I see. I think I would've been more motivated to watch the film if Russell Crowe wasn't in it. I really don't like that guy.lennytheweedwhacker wrote:I'm not really one for musicals, but I enjoyed it. I love the book so that helped.Bob Loblaw wrote:len, what did you think of Les Miz?
Did you read the whole book? I once started it but quit after the Waterloo section.

Well, there are more entertaining movies out there, but Bette Davis was great. I still need need to see Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, because man she can play a sadistic role. The Argonaut wrote:I recorded this one on the DVR, too. I have no idea what the hell this is, but I'm beginning to enjoy turning on TCM at whatever time and watching a movie I never heard of.

I liked it. And I agree with you about that sequence, it's awesome. The sound design is spectacular, I really felt out of breath at certain parts.Bob Loblaw wrote:The Impossible was ok, but it's more than worth watching for the sequence of the wave hitting the resort alone. It's incredibly well done.
I almost wish they had subtitled it "Naomi Watts Has a Really Shitty Day".

I watched Paris, Texas for the first time last night. This one's going to stay with me for a while.

Re: What Movies are you watching?
Like with music, the "superficial" elements of the production are what immediately grab me. In the case of a good album, it's the band and the sound of the studio that grab me well before the lyrics do. With film, the sets and the camera work are what I end up remembering after the initial viewing rather than the script or the actors. By no means do I ignore a good acting performance, it's just...not what I end up thinking or talking about after a film.
That being said, there is so much to love about the cinematography of Paris, Texas. Those wide open spaces of the desert set the tone, but it's the scenes inside the cities and motels along the way that really do it for me. Even thirty years ago, the romanticized American road of Kerouac and Roger Miller was decaying fast, yet somehow the faded colors of a burnt out neon sign end up looking more idyllic than ever.

VEEM VENDAHS!
I saw Beasts of the Southern Wild tonight. I respect and admire that it had a certain life to and it was definitely unique, I just didn't like it. I can't even say what I didn't like about it, because there wasn't anything specific I can hold against it. This movie and I are just on different levels.

Hitchcock
I'd give it a solid B+. Anthony Hopkins was awesome.
