I remember standing in the middle of the lawn when he started playing it, and watching the people around me build themselves into a frenzy of "THIS IS SO GOOD AND SO SIGNIFICANT AND WE REALLY DID MAKE IT TO WHEN IT ALL GOT GOOD!" and all I could think was "What? This is literally the worst thing I've ever seen at a Pearl Jam concert. This sounds like it was written by an 8 year old. How did Ed think this was good enough to play for people?"

I realized then that the Pearl Jam fanbase had more or less passed me by, and I was ok with that.

Now, what they did between the years of 91-200.....(1/2/3 depending on your own tastes) is other worldly.... They were working on another plane maybe.... But since?

Watching the picks come in for this made me go back and listen to a lot of stuff from the catalog as stand alone songs for the first time in years and it really hammered home just how deep and flat out great their output from 1991-2003 really was. For some reason it made me remember when my copy of the Man of the Hour single came in the mail in like December of 2003. They had just finished another killer tour that year, released Lost Dogs and floored me with how great some of the stuff in the vault was, and still had time to slip out an absolute gem like Man of the Hour. I remember thinking "As great as they've been, there's no reason to think they can't keep this up!" As unfair as it was to expect it to happen, it really did seem like they'd always be on that other plane you mentioned.

REALLY wanted Inside Job... I just couldn't find the right spot as my list got more rounded out and I started planning out a playlist. I may be in the minority, but I think that's my favorite song off of S/T.

It's always been a song I sort of forget about, until it comes on and I enjoy the shit out of it.
