Re: Australian Politics
How many times have Rudd and Gillard have exchanged the ALP leadership role now?

A fair few!Green Habit wrote:How many times have Rudd and Gillard have exchanged the ALP leadership role now?
Rudd was elected in November 2007, deposed by Gillard in June 2010, reinstated this week.
Though I'm not a particularly ardent fan of either, I think Rudd's a significantly better political performer than Gillard and his original removal was particularly brutal (and lacking any real justification.)

Also, now I'm reading that not only is freakin' Tony Abbott still the Coalition leader, but is leading in the polls? Yikes.

Yikes, indeed.Green Habit wrote:Also, now I'm reading that not only is freakin' Tony Abbott still the Coalition leader, but is leading in the polls? Yikes.
While the Liberals are still favoured to win the election, Abbott's personal popularity is still relatively low. I presume most people are intending to vote Liberal despite, rather than because of, Tony.

Re: Australian Politics
It's a sure sign how bad the Labor party has performed when people are willing to allow a jerk like Abbott to potentially be voted in as PM in preference to any other party leader. The disunity is going to set the liberals up for a decade at least.Birds in Hell wrote:Yikes, indeed.Green Habit wrote:Also, now I'm reading that not only is freakin' Tony Abbott still the Coalition leader, but is leading in the polls? Mostly to keep Tony out of office but also to keep other dipshits like Christopher Pyne and Sophie Mirabella way the fuck out.

Oh, I don't know, the whole ordeal is quite dispiriting.malice wrote:how's that going for you?Birds in Hell wrote:So, we're having one of those election thingies next month.

I'd prefer the Liberals to win, in the sense that it would be more tolerable than the alternative by a very small margin, but the idea of an Abbott-fronted government is hardly worth cheering.

I was ready to put in spoiler text the quote that explains that brilliant usage of the Angry Dad response, but then I'd fear that I'd get hit with an image from "McBain: Let's Get Silly."

Re: Australian Politics
so Australian politics is basically American politics with a better accent then.Birds in Hell wrote:Oh, I don't know, the whole ordeal is quite dispiriting.malice wrote:how's that going for you?Birds in Hell wrote:So, we're having one of those election thingies next month.

Re: Australian Politics
Well, Abbott is a bible-bashing thug. And the labor party have an absolutely ridiculous amount of in-fighting and are unstable. Still, there's no way I'm going to vote Liberal with Abbott in the driver's seat. That'd be suicide. Our country is in a pretty great place right now compared with most western countries. I can't help but feel Abbott would fuck all that up for us regular peeps.malice wrote:so Australian politics is basically American politics with a better accent then.Birds in Hell wrote:Oh, I don't know, the whole ordeal is quite dispiriting.malice wrote:how's that going for you?Birds in Hell wrote:So, we're having one of those election thingies next month.
