Re: The Stand-up Comedian Thread
Oh man the Comedy Store original room is the best! $15 to see 12-15 comedians tuesday-friday. Agree its a shit show but that's sort of what it is.
I avoid the sold out nights
Comedy runs till 2 but anything after 11:30 is basically considered "late night" with the occasional big name drop ins
On top of the comedians you saw some regulars are Chris D'elia, Joe Rogan, Marc Maron, Dean Delray, Whitney Cummings, Anthony Jeselnik, Nikki Glazer, Ali Wong, Joey Diaz, Dave Chappele, Bert Kreischer, Tom Segura
Its great to just see a bunch of top notch comedians doing 15 minute sets.

I actually laughed quite a bit watching John Mulaney's new Netflix special.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I can't believe it took me so long to know about this guy. SNL had me sold and his stand ups have been brilliant. I love his performances.tragabigzanda wrote:Ditto, he took a big leap forward with this one in my estimation.doone wrote:I actually laughed quite a bit watching John Mulaney's new Netflix special.

i love Mulaney. been following him for a few years, and yeah, his act has really really blossomed.tragabigzanda wrote:He was a core writer for SNL for some years; the Steffan character was his creation (with Hader of course). His own standup had always fallen flat for me, but I think his stage presence is starting to catch up with his writing.Strat wrote:I can't believe it took me so long to know about this guy. whether one hates Seth Rogen or not, check out his new comedy special Hilarity For Charity on Netflix. it's a total mess of a special, and no need to sit through probably half of it, but there's a flurry of special guests (Michael Che, Michelle Wolf) that are well worth your while to catch their 5-10 minute routines. Mulaney kills it with a Willy Wonka tirade.

I'm not a fan of Mulaney.
I don't think his stories are funny and I hate his delivery in general.

The horse in a hospital and college bits were really funny.

Re: The Stand-up Comedian Thread
his "Too Real" had me in stitches. the way he delivers lines are interesting to me. His internal dialogue matches mine often so thats why I took to it. The special started off with a bang but certainly started to falter as time went on.tragabigzanda wrote:"What is the deal with Trump voters?! My friend (who also loves WTF) and I are constantly doing mocking Maron impressions to each other, especially the way he talks about movies and how he used to be a “filmhead.” (tragabigzanda wrote:"What is the deal with Trump voters?!
