Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Even Sunset Boulevard? that's one of the most celebrated classics, and i've never seen it

I hate Billy Wilder, Richard Linklater, and Akira Kurosawa. And Phantom Thread. So...yeah. Sunset Blvd isn't TERRIBLE but I'm not a fan.

Tully. I liked it. Charlize Theron doesn't get enough credit.

Isn't she, like, an Oscar-winning A-list actress who likely commands upwards of $10M/film?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Ever since she got ugly and played a prostitute/murderer she's been considered one of the bestest.

If she's only making 10 million a film that's fucking criminal.

My point was that she's a known "star" but she doesn't get enough credit as an actress. She's quite possibly the best actress working today. People should talk about her they way they talk about Streep.

Those kids were not professionals, and the girl´s mother was a instagram celebrity...

This would explain my only other gripe with the film: The annunciation and audio were both pitiful. We had to watch with the closed-captioning on! Given that they weren't professional actors, I'll fault the director for not taking a more rigorous approach in post. I get that all their mumbling and talking over each other added to the realism, but at a certain point I need to be able to understand what they're actually saying.

I did not have these same issues. How did you watch the movie?

The twist ending was fine. Not the brilliant stroke other reviewers had made it out to be, but it was novel and effective.

Watched Clint Eastwood's A Perfect World today. Holy fuck, I was not expecting what I got. What an amazing movie. Complicated, uncomfortable, dangerous - it challenges the viewer to engage in complex, nuanced empathy in order to understand the disquieting, unpredictable actions of the characters, particularly Kevin Costner's. The whole final act is a powerhouse that left me in tears. Goddamn, what a movie. The kind of thing I can't imagine being made now (at least not on the same scale).

Watched Clint Eastwood's A Perfect World today. Holy fuck, I was not expecting what I got. What an amazing movie. Complicated, uncomfortable, dangerous - it challenges the viewer to engage in complex, nuanced empathy in order to understand the disquieting, unpredictable actions of the characters, particularly Kevin Costner's. The whole final act is a powerhouse that left me in tears. Goddamn, what a movie. The kind of thing I can't imagine being made now (at least not on the same scale).

You havent seen that one? might be my favorite from Clint. I was talking about that movie the other day because i saw it as a kid and it made such an impact back then. Costner´s acting....so cool and calm and at the same time so fucking violent. Incredible piece of art.
Kinda reminds me of Josh Brolin in No Country.

I like it a lot. Theron is magnificent. The best actress of her generation? Its such a powerful force i cant even think about a frame without her.
About the ending though...

Im kinda bummed with the route they gave us..the whole yeah, tully is me as a young girl...i think it was even more powerful if she was real. Its still a very good view on maternity and women...But having her being real would have been more powerful

I loved this one as a teenager but am due for a re-watch.

Same. I saw it in the theater when it first came out and I loved it. But I just don't remember any specifics at this point.
