in the end I tend to not go in for fuzzy meandering guitars, and i don't really like his voice. So Neil Young is going to be a tough sell for me. Enough people whose tastes I respect swear by this guy, so I'm sure there is something here, but it's not reaching me

yeah but the majority of his 70s work isn't (aren't?) fuzzbombs. sure, a lot of it takes its time getting to where it goes, but the instrumentation is crisp and bright and clean

i'd categorize it as more of a "blanket indifference" than a "blanket opposition"

oh sure, but that's where the voice is a dealbreaker to me. The instrumentation really puts him front and center, and I just don't like listening to him sing. I think on songs that have a bit more urgency I might get past it, but on languid atmospheric pieces it's going to work to the detriment of the song. I bet I'd like covers of more than a few of these.

I don't really prefer any of them. None of them are songs I'd rush back to listen to. I guess a future days studio version would likely win out assuming it improvs over the pretty enough but slight and forgettable live version we have.

If you were truly indifferent then this thread being a twitter free zone wouldn't mean a thing.
