Sometimes it really is quantity over quality. Like in college.

I think the widespread drinking of light beer (by young people, no less!) is just a quirk of American culture that my brain refuses to process. I mean, shit, just buy a bottle of spirits or something, y'know?

It's not just American. It happens all over the world.

At my sister-in-law's wedding I was drinking a really good local IPA. And I'm not always a big fan of IPA's, but this was really good. I can't for the life of me remember the name. But it was from a small brewery near Austin, TX. Anyway... my sister-in-law's uncle walks up to me and says, "let me know when you're ready for a real beer." And he pointed his Bud Light at me and I just laughed until I coughed.

It just seems thoroughly bizarre that being able to drink more liquid is seen as an appropriate trade-off for consuming less alcohol.
"Hey, it might not have got me wasted, but I drank, like, twenty of those things, man!"
No wonder you guys need to piss so much at concerts, goodness me.

I enjoy beer, but the last thing I want on a hot Arizona day is a dark beer.

i still dont understand why PBR is cool to drink right now. the only reason it existed was because it was dirt cheap. now bars sell it for 3 bucks a can. moronic.

But when I can get a Sixpoint for 4 (hell even 5), I'm not paying 3 for a goddamn PBR.Birds in Hell wrote:Three dollars for a drink in a bar sounds pretty dirt fucking cheap.

This is true. There is shitty beer everywhere.theplatypus wrote:It's not just American. It happens all over the world.
Doesn't have to be a dark ale. You can get a quality lager (Bell Lager / Victory Larger), or a Pale Ale (Sierra Nevada for example which now comes in a can) and both are good hot day / summer / spring type beers.theplatypus wrote:Good point.turned2black wrote:I enjoy beer, but the last thing I want on a hot Arizona day is a dark beer.

It's weird how so "in" or whatever it is now. Back in my day, going to the Velvet Lounge, or DC9, we would get PBRs or Schlitz (the beer the guys in Grumpy Old Men drink) all the time. It was $2 back then, but I don't think it was cool or anything. I just got them b/c they were cheap, and the selections sucked. I'd rather pay $2 for a Schlitz than $3.50 for Miller Lite.durdencommatyler wrote:But when I can get a Sixpoint for 4 (hell even 5), I'm not paying 3 for a goddamn PBR.Birds in Hell wrote:Three dollars for a drink in a bar sounds pretty dirt fucking cheap.

It's just the look now...in a few years it'll be something different.
We can always hope for this look to come back:
