I thought it was an awesome fun film. For me the these these 1 off story movies really have nailed the tone of the period real well.
Spoiler: show
As for Maul,

I think you will see the Crimson Dawn Syndicate show up in the Fett movie if does happen.

I thought this was fine. It was fun, but nothing special. I kinda felt like Alden Ehrenreich was doing a Phillip Seymour Hoffman impression rather than a Harrison Ford impression

As for Alden Ehrenreich the poor guys just wont win. Solo is Ford. He was ok in here though but all i wanted was to see this movie with Ford.
Big Kudos to Ron Howard, the movie looks incredible. Maybe more than TLJ. Its right there in tone with ANH and looks so fucking good.
Spoiler: show
I didnt quite liked the ending though. Felt like a scene for another moment.

These are just kind of my thoughts on it.

I thought Alden and Glover were fine (although I was a little disappointed in Glover. it wasn't bad, but I had really high expectations). Bettany was good. Harrelson was meh. Emilia is... not great.

I didn't care for the droid even a little. And the implied sexual relationship was just really kinda weird and felt forced. The 4 arm guy was okay though.

I guess it just felt like movie was a "Han Solo Checklist!!!" in some ways, which could have worked if I liked the action more maybe? Instead of getting a blaster origin story I would have preferred to see HOW Han became brash instead of him just being that way. Also, something about having a love story with Han just rubbed me the wrong way even though I knew it was going to be one. Maybe it somewhat undermines the most important love story in Star Wars? Not sure. That could just be a lack of belief in Emilia Clarke's performance.

The film looked good and appropriately gritty, but I found the action underwhelming for the most part. One other thing i didn't like
Spoiler: show
making the mauraders a group of altruistic kids? I liked them better as bad guys.
The one thing i LOVED though...
Spoiler: show
The inclusion of Darth Maul. I don't love Darth Maul as a character in general and find him almost as overrated as Boba Fett . BUT... To include a character that at that point exists only in the supplemental canon like Clone Wars and Rebels was a ballsy move that also legitimizes that stuff in the overall story. I was somewhat afraid that those things would exist for fan service, but never really "matter" in the universe, kind of like Agents of Shield. But having a character like Maul who is so important to storylines in those series really legitimizes that stuff and I enjoy that.

Not even for $5?

Also: does it make more sense now that you've seen the movie?
Cross-posting from the book thread since it's just for today.

Okay...
Spoiler: show
-Alden does a good job. There are moments when he absolutely nails it. There are moments when he's not quite hitting it. On the balance, he does a good job and I honestly hope he gets the chance to play the part again.
- Emilia Clarke is getting way too much guff. She's really good in this movie. I just don't understand how people don't like her performance.
- Glover is outstanding.
- L3 is outstanding
- Bettany is fantastic.
- Woody is just a complete joy to watch (let this put an end to "no famous celebrities in Star Wars" forever).
- It's so well shot. This is a gorgeous movie.
- There are times when it's too on the nose. Sometimes the "fan service" is too obvious and the jokes are cringey... A good example of this is when Han wins the Falcon at the end and literally says "Fair and square, baby!"
- The surprises in the film work.
- The story works.
- Han has never been a character I care a whole lot about, honestly, and this movie made me LOVE Han solo.
- The pacing in the first act is weird but it doesn't take away from the overall experience.
Those are my initial first impression thoughts.

Non-Spoiler.... I really liked this movie.

No. I'm calling it entirely inaccurate. Like when someone says something that we THINK is going to be a problem, then we make up an outrage that never actually happens.

Emilia Clarke was sometimes ok, sometimes bad. I think she was bad in the comedy moments and ok in the drama scenes. She is pretty hit or miss for me.
Woody was awesome, but cmon he is always great.
