i agree, but i can see why VG might prefer Solo. It's a fun space pirate movie to R1's dark war movie in space.

Exactly, they are so different. Rogue One is a war movie, with all their leading characters are doomed to death. Almost a drama.
Solo is a sci fan adventure flick, a perfect prequel both in tone and character wise with ANH.

Solo = a swashbuckling pirate movie with a treasure hunt, a gangster/crime syndicate, and no real stakes because you know going into it that the lead and his right-hand man are gonna get out just fine. Han's cocksuredness, the flight scenes, and the general sense of humor make the whole thing feel light and fun.

Rogue One = a war movie about men on a mission to certain doom. The empire casts a dark shadow over the entire film, much of the lighting is very dark, and everyone dies in the end.

This shouldn't be that hard.

It shouldn't and yet here we are.

Those are cool. They did a good job putting them in the film without being too on the nose about it.
As for the fan service, this one was good about it. The only thing i didnt quite liked was the ending tough.
