Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Just because there's a ton of uninspired programming making it to the front page of Netflix doesn't mean it's dead, it simply means that the distribution platforms haven't figured out how to leverage their position to their fullest potential. Look at Burt -- he's got a cool book that he's been able to produce at volume by going direct to his fans.

Most of what gets reviewed and heavily marketed sucks, but there will always be passionate artists making compelling works. Everything else is just distributing and marketing.

I've become cynical, I know. But it's hard not to feel like this these days. The good movies get shit on, DisneyMarvel rules everything, there's pretty much nothing worth watching on TV, I haven't been interested in a videogame in like a year, I can't relate to the dialogue around art at all anymore. It's politicized and ignorant and awful. Aesthetics don't matter to people. Pretty much the only space that has art that interests me anymore is pop/hip-hop music.
