2003 in Japan
I have been listening to these lately, and have really been enjoying them. How different the tone, pacing and intensity are due to the subdued crowd is wild. Hearing some of these songs slowed down is really great. Outstanding set lists, but I think 2003 has my favorite sets in general.
Toyko and Yokohama are both in my hall of fame right now.

Re: 2003 in Japan
Nagoya is my favourite. But yeah, absolutely incredible run and one of the best. I wonder how they'd play if they went to Japan again these days. I can't see them pulling it off like this. Eddie would try to make the Japanese crowd sing along to the guitar lines of DTE while they all stand there in suits and ties with their dignity. It'd be awkward as, because Eddie likes to force things even when they're not there these days.

Is that the one where Eddie ruins all the Riot Act songs by forgetting the words?WtOB? wrote:Nagoya is my favourite.

I think that might be Sendai? Definitely not Nagoya. I think we've had this conversation before.Kevin Davis wrote:Is that the one where Eddie ruins all the Riot Act songs by forgetting the words?WtOB? wrote:Nagoya is my favourite.

That Budokan show is probably the best sounding bootleg they've ever produced.

Re: 2003 in Japan
They're really strange shows, but in a good way. I love them. I actually just found my copy of Osaka yesterday to use in that song tournament. The version of Oceans there is just incredible.

it's the first song, I couldn't find it on YT.
And there used to be, years ago, a compilation made by a forum member who's name eludes me, that was really, really good.

Re: 2003 in Japan
That's a great way of putting it, the shows are really weird for Pearl Jam but in a really good way. Which is funny considering the Australian shows right before them are god awful.

Re: 2003 in Japan
Just noticed this while going back and reading 5H's reviews of these Japan 2003 shows...
So yeah. Apparently that's sitting in the vault somewhere in Seattle right now.One final note: during many of the shows, one of the techs would hold up a sign with a "$" on it toward the band. Some speculate that this meant that song was a "good take" for the video that was obviously being made (there are numerous cameras). Perhaps another DVD ... a few live clips are appearing on the video section of the Ten Club site already.

I like that Sendai show a lot. Sounds so clear. Plus, you think its in a cafe with an audience of 5.

There used to be good fanviews from this tour on Synergy.

I know the Japan shows of 03 didn't sell too well. Maybe they were letting the band know if they broke even or not?super nintendo chalmers wrote:That or reminding the band why they were playing to begin with, $.Lament wrote:Just noticed this while going back and reading 5H's reviews of these Japan 2003 shows...

Re: 2003 in Japan
Someone should do a comp. I listened to Nagoya and I was right about a few of the songs at least -- Eddie pretty much forgets the whole first verse to "Get Right," and he mumbles his way through most of "Green Disease" too.
I really miss that era of the band, though. The 2003 shows always remind me how much I love Riot Act.
