Re: Mind Your Manners
I did. Even sold most of my gear. Then a few months ago I decided I wanted to clean and finish a collection of songs that I liked, but that got discarded over the years due to time constraints. That was fun, and I even recorded two or three new things, but it was just so time consuming. I don't care for taking a moment of creativity and spending six hours alone bringing it to fruition, anymore. Fortunately, there's cell phones.

Mind Your Manners:
Week 1: 1,641 plays, estimated audience size of 8.6
Week 2: 2,550 plays, estimated audience size of 8.62
Week 3: 2,873 plays, estimated audience size of 9.42
Week 4: 3,035 plays, estimated audience size of 9.69
Total plays: 10,099
For the last 8 or 9 days its seen a steady drop at Alternative Rock in both audience and spins. Since Alt and Active are the two big formats for rock, Active will have to really love this song for it not to start to show downward momentum.
Normally, that would be that. Active is not a great format for the band...it favors heavier material. But looking at the song's run on that chart so far (#21, #10, #10, #4), it may actually break that mold. It's also in its third week at #2 on the much smaller Mainstream chart, and is on the final legs of what was really just a post-Backspacer "we'd better see if our nostalgia-laden audience likes this one as much as they did Fixer and Just Breathe" teaser scurry through Triple A (#43, #37, #40, #46).
Basically, signals are pretty mixed. It's already played more, and to more people, than Amongst the Waves...and possibly Life Wasted. If it hasn't beat that one already, it will this week no matter what. But unless something happens to reignite it at Alt radio, I doubt it will reach WWS levels...let alone Fixer or Just Breathe....and downward momentum in a very prominent format could potentially be a sign that it's already beginning to tire.
Man I need more to do when I'm at work.

"Life Wasted" is a shit song that temporarily ruined their reputation, at least amongst rock fans I know.

Re: Mind Your Manners
Thanks for the numbers. Local alternative radio station in San Francisco is giving Mind Your Manners a few spins a day. It seems to be in a holding pattern and I'd guess the station, Live105, is keeping it in rotation out of respect for the band and because there a few tickets to sell over at Oracle. That being said, this is as close to a radio ready song as we'll ever hear from Pearl Jam. Fans have long griped PJ never get it right with singles and this one is a scorcher. The guitar interplay is blazing and Mr. Vedder's performance is up to the challenge. For that reason, I think MOM has an outside chance to break out. I'm not sure what that means exactly since the song is unplayable on crossover pop stations (ie Alice) where Just Breathe had a little run.McParadigm wrote:I did. Even sold most of my gear. With this track, PJ is casting a net for those backward baseball cap wearing fratboys that fell off the bandwagon post-Vs and held on barely for Vitalogy (because Vitalogy was not for them or record labels or models) and who hated that No Code bullshit
This song will probably snag a little chunk of next generation bros as well. I mean, people listen to Foo Fighter for cripes sake. There is gold in them there hills of mainstream rawk.

Listening to this on Youtube, the guitars seem louder than on my MP3. I thought I was going mad, but I'm not. It must be my MP3 player. It's good quality but for some reason, the guitars are slightly buried under the drums and vocals.

You're going to tell me there's no difference now aren't you? It's possible that I just think the shittier sound of the computer suits the song better than the clean sound of my player.VinylGuy wrote:I will give it a listen now, because i also find the guitars very buried in the mix.harmless wrote:Listening to this on Youtube, the guitars seem louder than on my MP3. Youtube may have some psychoacoustic effects involved in the transcoding. I'm not 100% sure though.harmless wrote:You're going to tell me there's no difference now aren't you? The mere act of having typed this is so impossibly optimistic, the entire post should be copy-pasted someplace safe and held on to for future illustration.harmless wrote:Yup. I'm hoping they sound more full on the final album.VinylGuy wrote:Goddamn, they sound better.

Re: Mind Your Manners
Our stations seem to be playing a radio edit of this.
The beginning just jumps into the vocal omitting the (is it 4/4?) different beat at the start.
Anyone else noticed?

Is it just possible some DJs just turn it up at that point and cut off the beginning?dimejinky99 wrote:Our stations seem to be playing a radio edit of this.

Yep it seems to be a radio edit? The pj collectors are saying so also.
No the intro is but yknow the way it goes into a sort of sifferent(better) timing for a bit?
That bits been cut out.
I'm hungover sorry if I'm not explaining it well
