they arent really similar to either of those, but if you havent checked out shovels and rope yet then you really should, their album "o be joyful" is great and if you get the opportunity to see them live then you have to, they put on a great show

yep, and like i said above, if you get the chance to see them live, they are very fun, its just the 2 of them, and id say most of the songs are with him on the drums and her playing guitar, but they switch for a few songs, and they are playing everything else you can think of while playing the drums.

The Springfield Creamery show, August '72. They finally released the movie Sunshine Daydream and I saw it in the theater last week. Really good stuff.



But what really got me going again was this blog (http://doomandgloomfromthetomb.tumblr.com/). He does a summer of Dead and posts one show from each year, every week, all summer long. He's picked some great shows, a few I haven't heard since college. Right no its this November 79 show from UCLA (http://archive.org/details/gd1979-11-25 ... eok.flac16). The Stella Blue here is my all time favorite.

I'd say I'm probably the opposite, Ellis--I really like pretty much everything up through '76 or '77 (Donna Godchaux excepted), but I feel like the shows get consistently shakier after that. But again I'm not an expert--I have maybe 20-some-odd albums and a few bootlegs, which seems like a lot but isn't a drop in the bucket compared to all the stuff out there. I really like "Crazy Fingers" a lot too, though.

Def Leppard. What PJ was to me in the 90's Def Leppard was to me in the 80's. I haven't listened to them in forever but last week I pulled out High N Dry and it was perfect.

see her screaming is what ruined so many shows for me (not that i was there, but listening to countless bootlegs over the years) and by association a decade of a tremendous band.

Yeah, the screaming is just inexcusable. If she's mixed right, her proper harmonies add a nice texture, but on most of the two-track recordings her voice just defaults immediately to that narrow frequency that both overpowers whoever she's singing with and rockets directly to the most sensitive part of your eardrum.
