This will please the freedom caucus to no end, but just about every other incumbent Republican running in November was counting on having a good yarn to spin about how they fixed immigration and saved caged children from the Dems.

The plan wasn’t half bad, either. Produce an immigration bill that is a compromise between white nationalist Republicans and moderate Republicans, knowing that the results would be unacceptable to the Democrats, then wedge in protections for families at the border. If Democrats vote with you then you tout it as a total victory, and if they vote against it you can say they voted against saving those families.

It’s the most cynically perfect way to win re-election points.
