I will submit for consideration: Danzig. Specifically, the Satans Child/I Luciferi period.

I think I gotta disagree with chud and Jorge about SOAD. I would consider them Nu Metal. They have that skater-punk-esque playfulness that was such a hallmark of the movement. Being political doesn’t preclude a band from being Nu, nor do manic, unusual compositions. They have the low-end heaviness, they have the attitude, they have the look. It’s there.

This is nonsense and you know it. Being Nu doesn’t just mean bad.

I agree. I basic tenet of nu metal is it's poor musicianship.

I just think SOAD has a lot more in common with Dead Kennedys than with KoRn

I’d say they have things in common with both.

It’s okay that you like a Nu Metal band, guys.

You're putting words in my mouth -- I neither said that I liked them nor that it was bad to like a nu-metal band

I just remember MTV pushing Korn, Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock hard for lack of anything better to promote. No wonder they eventually just dumped music altogether.

It was. It was a specific sound and style that had accompanying fashion and encompassed a lot of bands.
