What did you mishear it as?
Tell the captain the boats are safe but we're drowning.
that is better, but the actual lyric is fine
I agree, that's why I posted it in the first place.

behind her eyes there's curtains/and they've been closed to hide the flames

are we bound out of obligation/is that all we've got

I sometimes realize I can only be as good as you let me

I wish I was the verb to trust and never let you down

As an angsty 13 year old, Indifference always spoke the most to me:

I will hold the candle, till it burns up my arm
I'll keep takin' punches, until their will grows tired
Oh I will stare the sun down, until my eyes go blind
Hey I won't change direction, and I won't change my mind

But I will say that I am shocked to not see anyone quote this one yet:

"The real possibility I may meet you in my dream"

Perhaps because it is iconic?

it is awkward but in a way that is appropriate for the song

'I would have fallen from the sky 'til you/parachutes have opened now'

I always liked this line bc of the purpose and scenario of what was happening at the time:

"Paint Ed big...turn Ed into...one of his enemies..."

I find it too weird that he's refering to himself in third person  He does it on a different song too, In My Tree maybe? Though that bridge in mostly undecipherable.

I like it... it's just straight forward and you know it's about him. He writes so much in character or about characters, it's nice when he breaks that mold and faces his own demons head on

I'm certain he doesn't do it on In My Tree. That's just fans taking an undecipherable bit and making up really stupid words.

The other bands one was rad, though.
