Is This Nu-Metal?

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

It's not really a slap bass. It's more of a tuned-so-low-it-actually-rattles-on-the-fretboard thing. You can really hear it in the "Freak on a Leash" chorus
There's a lot of slap in there, too. Take 'Got the Life' for example:

I learned to play a lot of their shit for a laugh. It wasn't very funny.
What I mean is that the slap technique isn't what I react negatively to but the ugly rattle sound

I misread that completely, Jorge. The rattle is pretty awful.

Code Orange released a new EP today with Corey Taylor on it.

So I’ll nominate them now.

My favorite nu-metal thing may be Jonathan Davis's weird scatting in the "Freak on a Leash" breakdown

Jorge's ability to translate weird human sounds to text never ceases to amaze me. His rendition of Release is still one of my favorite things ever

He'll love it.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed listening to that second Korn album the other day, though it got a bit wearing after five or six songs. There was a window there when I used to listen to it all the time, but I was over it by the time the third album came out.

It's an interesting, kind of unheralded period in musical history, and it's notable how much this kind of stuff soundtracked my high school years (1996-2000), even in a non-direct way. It was everywhere.

Yeah, it’s really the only period I can think of when super heavy and aggressive rock/metal became a mainstream radio staple. Weird.

I have not heard any KoRn song that wasn't "Daddy" or a single

I'm sure I will. I need to listen to the song first then come back to it. I am not a die hard Korn fan so I'm unfamiliar with that song
