No, this is Jorge’s thread. It should remain unmolested

Is this song nu-metal?
Before answering, ask yourself: if this wasn't Smashing Pumpkins but from no-name dreadlock-bearded band from Wisconsin, would it be nu-metal? If it had a different singer, would it be nu-metal?

Re: Were They Nu-Metal?
I think it could be with different vocals. Corgan’s whine kinda cancels out any Nu potential there.

Re: Were They Nu-Metal?
The chorus seems too lilting and melodic to be nu-metal.

Re: Were They Nu-Metal?
Both good points. If the vocals were more dudebro then it'd absolutely be nu-metal.

I don't know but it's a terrible song. I remember wanting to like this really badly at one time in my life.

Re: Were They Nu-Metal?
The Everlasting Gaze isn’t exactly nu metal, but it is appropriating/copping the style for sure. It’s more groove metal sounding to me.
Melissa Auf Der Maur’s bass work in SP was always out of place, her bass tone sounds very nu metal comared to Darcy and whoever the hell they’ve had since.

I thought D'arcy played on Machina and Auf der Maur joined after it was done

Re: Were They Nu-Metal?
But Billy, James and D'arcy all played bass on the album. I'm not sure who did which tracks, though.

I’m sure it’s Bi Corg revisionist history, but he says him and James were the only bass players on Machina I.Ello Sailor wrote:But Billy, James and D'arcy all played bass on the album. I'm not sure who did which tracks, though.
I was mainly referring to live footage from their tour with her I’ve seen, she sounds extremely downtuned and clunky on older songs.

I wouldn't be surprised, but D'arcy is definitely listed as contributing bass.Jammer XCI wrote:I’m sure it’s Bi Corg revisionist history, but he says him and James were the only bass players on Machina I.
I would agree with this. I was a big fan of her at the time though. She's just so damn enchanting.Jammer XCI wrote:I was mainly referring to live footage from their tour with her I’ve seen, she sounds extremely downtuned and clunky on older songs.
